I'm still holding out hope for a metro version of OneNote (dual metro and desktop like IE10)

All these "metro" logo-revamps (Windows, Office, etc.) are just ugly. I vastly prefer the Windows7-era icons.

I kind of wish the letters in the icons were aligned with the angled tile they're sitting on. maybe it would look worse though it's too early for me to think properly or post

I agree that it looks pretty shitty.

Not that it is important or that I have any reason to upgrade. I mean my office still runs a lot of computers on Office 03...

The only icon that I've seen that I like is the main "Office" logo in the OP there, doesn't look bad really, unlike the rest of them.

Not like it matters, I don't plan on using Windows 8 any time soon, and only use Office at work.

don't really understand office updates...I don't really see much use in upgrading from 2007/2010...what new features could possibly worth upgrading? Lot's of people still use 2003 as it offers what most people need.

same, it's odd that they're not in perspective. probably detracted from readability.

See, I think the exact opposite. They look very out of date—versus, say, the far more modern designs of Adobe's CS icons for example.

Yeah me neither, I was using 2003 until just last year and it suited me fine...still curious what changes are coming, nonetheless.

Edit: I forgot Silverlight existed, ugh.

the screenshot function and save as pdf alone are worth the upgrade (at least at work where you dont need to pay for it).

Save as PDF has been standard on Mac office for a while now, and is free in Windows through Bullzip or CutePDF.

The new CD6 icons are terrible.

CS4 icons were the pinnacle - so beautiful.

Maybe that comes from having Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X installed though....

Was it a Mac office feature or simply the built-in print to PDF functionality in OSX?

Yeah, agreed. I know some people who were fawning over the splash screens/icons for CS6, but I find them horrendously tacky.

They're pretty similar. What I love about Skydrive is that it integrates it right into Windows Explorer, making it absurdly easy to manage your Skydrive folders and uploads.

Built-in feature in Chrome 20. No longer do you need those add-ons.

Also integrated with the webapps.... no need to "convert" files to edit in the browser like gdocs. Also you get more free storage and the paid tiers are cheaper.

Is PowerPoint 2010 a 64bit application? Slow as fuck when using lots of video and animations.

I hope they do something make it take better advantage of modern hardware.

lol, more transitions, just what we need!

I guess I'll have to wait to try this. They're such douchebags about activation limits on office products and if I install this I'm sure it will corrupt my 2010 installation and lock me out for activation limits. :/

Powerpoint already takes advantage of the GPU for transitions and animations. How much are you throwing in there to the point where it actually slows down? What hardware are you running your presentations on?

edit: that Outlook UI looks amazing.
