What FREE game has provided you the most entertainment? #1

What free game have given you the most entertainment (hours/fun) ? This includes mods that are dependent on some paid platform.

Personally nothing even comes close to CounterStrike in the years 1999-2000 for me. I had played a few online games before it but this was my big break through.
I'm guessing I played somewhere between 500-1000 hours on 56K/ISDN (which in retro-respect wouldn't make the experience exactly free of charge butwhathaveyou).

I can't speak personally but for my friends it would be Tetris. So many hours that could've been spent on studying wasted on Tetris on facebook. *sigh* college.

Guilty admittance. I love Adventure Quest. I don't know why but god damned I have thousands of hours in that game.

i think i just spend 10 hrs in dungeon fighter online in the past week or so. Not bad stuff. A somewhat inelegant combo of traditional loot based rpgs and arcade style brawler.

Probably League of Legends. I can't count Team Fortress 2 because I got it back when it still cost money.

Not sure if they count as "free" or not, but the games that come with various versions of Windows come to mind. Solitaire, FreeCell, Chess Titans, online Checkers and Reversi, and especially Minesweeper have all been cool time killers for me at some point.

Also, the flash games Defend Your Castle and Ginormo Sword. Both pretty addictive.

I've never really jumped into the freemium thing though. If a game requires me to download or install it, I usually shy away. At that point I realize I'm playing a video game, and would prefer to go play some of my collected backlog.

The original America's Army. Some of the best multiplayer maps ever. And rolling a cooked nade through a ajar door on Insurgent Camp was pure, fucking win.

Probably counterstrike, but that feels like cheating...
Transformice stole a lot of time from me a few years ago. Played it for hours every day for a couple months and then dropped it.

I was going to say Tyrian or Scorched Earth, but if we're talking about games that have always been free-to-play, probably some MUD from the mid 90s.

Though I really don't think you can count games you played for hundreds before it went F2P or paid for later. Heh.

League of Legends is my 2nd most played title of all time, only behind World of Warcraft. 1050 hours clocked in on Raptr, and I even started it a month before I used the service. Got Silver for the first season(Decided to get up to 1400's then just retired), and already got it locked for this season(Got up to 1500's then retired). Haven't spent a cent, but got a free Janna Skin too <3

Next up would be Tribes Ascend. Started in February this year, with a few weeks in the previous. At about 225 hours played, rank 30, and just a few flags shy of 1k capped. Did just hit my 10k kill mark too. Threw 10$ their way for the VIP and that has been it.
