I'm not sure if I've actually dropped any of them, but I stopped following the following series, but that doesn't mean I won't play a newer game if it ends up looking good though (example dmc, it just looks unlikely I will love the new game, but I might give it a chance):
Mass effect - played 1 quite a few times, but my interest went down during 2 and towards the release of 3, I kind of stopped caring a bit so I haven't bothered with 3 just yet Silent Hill Dragon age - I will still play a Dragon age 3 if they make one that looks appealing Uncharted - Played 2 a lot, wasn't too happy with 3, if 4 is really looking good I might buy it Resident Evil - I liked 5 enough but really disliked half of the main campaign, 6 seems like a bit of a mixed bag, so I might skip, depend whether the positive outweighs the negative Final Fantasy - I'm not sure the direction it's going, if they keep doing sequels for FF13 and 13-2 (haven't played it) then I'm probably done with the series Street Fighter - Stopped at SF4, just not into fighting games nowadays anyway, got no friends to play with. GT - Stopped at GT4, same as above GTA - Loved vice city, got burnt out of the series after san andreas Yakuza - Same as above, got kind of bored of the combat towards the end of 2. I'm ready to return to some of them at anytime, I'm interested in a new GTA and Dragon age after taking a break, just make a good game with fun combat and quality of the previous games and I'll buy it.

Uncharted 3 killed Uncharted for me so I won't be returning to that series.
Silent Hill 4 was terrible and I pretty much never touched the series again. Silent Hill 2 and 3 will forever remain in my heart as awesome. Loved Modern Warfare but never really touched the series again outside of the odd multiplayer at a friend's house. No intentions of buying the COD games. These are what come to mind. |

Civilization - Loved 1 through 4. When 5 came out I brought it release day and within a day I was couldn't understand why I didn't enjoy it. I came to realise this series was suddenly turned into some cash grab. They gutted the depth out of the series, added pretty graphics, tons of DLC. What really pissed me off is that all the 'reviews' rated the game highly (metacritic = 90%) but user reviews score it only 68%. This was the first game that opened my eyes to publishers/distributors buying reviews.
Diablo - Loved the series and was a massive Blizzard fanboy. Own at least 1 copy of every game, some games multiple copies. Much the same as above for Civ but it seems the company has stopped trying to make fun games and started to make mass appeal, over marketed, over hyped cash grabs. What makes it worse is that these 2 series were at the pinnacle of games that I loved. Some companies are still doing well (Total War series comes to mind) but I've learnt to wait and read user reviews for any game that has hype. |

Mass Effect series -- Haven't played ME3 and probably never will. Not due to the whole ending thing, but even though I enjoyed ME2 I was completely tired of the series after that. I don't feel like they went in the right direction after the original.
Tony Hawk -- Project 8 was my last in the series, which wasn't even that bad aside from the framerate. THUG was the high point of the series for me. After that it felt like going through the motions. |

Splinter Cell - loved Chaos Theory but what came after was an insult (except the Xbox version of DA)
Dead Space - great first game and Extraction was a nice side story, but DS2 was a turd and DS3 looks even worse Dragon Age and Mass Effect - I don't think I need to say anything |

Also soon to be Assassin's Creed. I couldn't finish Brotherhood. So I think I'm out after 3 since they're obviously gonna make at least 3 or 4 spinoffs from the new character. edit: Silent Hill after 4. Resident Evil after 4 (played some of 5, realized the franchise just wasn't for me anymore). MGS (aside from Revengeance of course) |

ZELDA - Went downhill after OOT
MGS - First two were great, 3rd one meh, 4th OMG. COD - Went downhill after COD4 Final Fantasy - X was the last good one, bought all the ones that came after that and was always disappointed - now I´m done. Resident Evil - 5th one was horrible and the demo from 6 doesn´t help. Gran Tourismo - GT5 was so uneven - Forza does the job for me now. God of war - First is one of my favorite games of all time, got bored during the second one and couldn´t force myself to finish the 3rd. Dragon Age - needs no explanation Mass Effect - I´m on the fence with that one - 3rd game was terrible in every sense. |

Hitman - Loved Hitman 2, then I lost interest.
Max Payne - 1 and 2 are great games. Splinter Cell - Conviction was ok. The new one is not Splinter Cell at all. Crysis - Crysis 2 ruined everything that was good in the original Far Cry - Went from an enjoyable game to a "realistic" terrible game. Rainbow Six - Last Vegas was awesome. Then ended in a cliff hanger. I'm not buying more shit just to get the end of the previous game. Was so pissed I almost broke the disk. Ghost Recon - As more have said. The first one is almost perfect. The rest are terrible. Advanced Warfighter is actually decent though. |

Dead Space
The less suspense, the less I am interested. It was the sound design in the first that had me hooked (and terrified!), not fight sequences. Final Fantasy Pretty much dead to me when I've only enjoyed one game in the last 10 years (FF12). Even then, X wasn't soo bad that it turned me off FF in general. FFXIII was though. A crowning achievement of awful emo tropes, hateful characters, linear game design, poor story and anything interesting at all happening in cut scenes rather than by player agency. If you have a corridor game with chase sequences and landscapes falling apart, don't make all the interesting bits happen in the cut scenes, leaving the player nothing but repetitive grind, FFS. Resident Evil after the ridiculous action-focus of REV (RE2 gave me a pistol and 6 bullets. RE5 gave me a grenade launcher and 60 incendiary rounds, presumably carried in my wheelie flight-case the size of a photocopier)) and it's awful final battle, RE6 will be something I pick up waaay down the line on the cheap. Dragon Age The ending of the last game was awful, all choices leading to the same scenario. Good party members though. Mass Effect The ending of the last game was awful, all choices... Wait a minute, this sounds familiar. Street Fighter I think I got pretty much a lifetime's worth of SF out of SFII Turbo in the 90s, and have no inclination to return now that it is infested with DLC and yearly updates. Uncharted It's not that I didn't enjoy UC3, I did and the characters are cool, it's just that I found the gunplay intensely repetitive, and after 3 games of similar stuff I don't really need any more. man this is depressing stuff. There are loads of games I really like, honest! :D I know I'm only a junior and can't post threads or anything, but what would be really interesting, rather than the usual binary like/dislike approach, would be a thread where people talk about why they enjoy a particular series of 2 or more games, and also the bits that they feel could be improved.

The same goes with Resident Evil. One of the biggest gripes of this generation to me is that with all the problems Japanese devs had at the start of this generation and the bigger succes of the Xbox 360 and the larger share of Western games and gamers, the Eastern developers aimed their games too much at the Western market and their culture. Look at Resident Evil becoming an action and shooter game more and more. I am more of fan of Eastern influences, less violent, more magic. |

Gran Turismo 2. Played the ever loving snot outta that game, then I got a PS2 and GT3. That game was also great, but the reduced car roster didn't hold my interest well. Once I finished with that game, I never went back.
I think there's also something to be said about how uncanny it was to have super realistic looking gameplay, and especially replays, but have no visible damage whatsoever. |

Megaman.
Enjoyed the shit out of Megaman 2 back in the day. MM3 came along, and was more of the same, and I was done after that. Tried going back with MM7 and Maverick Hunter X, but it just wasn't happening. So glad the franchise has been dead this gen. Fable Really enjoyed Fable 2, but the third game just isn't grabbing me. With the next Fable being a Kinect game I guess I'm done. |

As others have said, if Bioware decide on making Mass Effect 4 the return of the clones or whatever MMO they dreamed up, I will not play it. Loved ME 1 + 2 (to an extent) so much, but 3 was sooo disappointing. |

I don't really get invested in franchise. In fact for most games (without a really good continuous story) that have multiple iterations I just hold out and buy the best rated game, so I can skip the rest. That said, of the number of long running series that I do frequently dip into, I'm going to have to go with 2D Marios and Zeldas. These were the games I would be looking out for for ages, and always bought without hesitation. Now I'm just completely burnt out on both franchises, where I feel they're playing it too conservatively.

Such mostly occurs in situations, where IP is given to another developer and the premises changes. I've been disappointed by many cases e.g. Splinter Cell, Fable and FF situations, yet I'll still give their new mainline entries a play as they still have some of those redeeming qualities of the old.
One of my favorite series of all time was Wolfenstein, but the latest one sucked hard, noticeable right from the demo so skipped that one. In some cases conservative design choices and stagnation have also resulted in me leaving the franchise, see: Halo and Pokemon, though Halo 4 looks really good. |

Zelda all the way to Twilight Shitfest to some extent, but when we reached Skyward Sword, I knew I had to say my goodbyes only a few hours in. It wasn't Zelda in my living room, it was somebody else.
Skyward Sword is a terribad game, I pity the girl who tattooed it on her back... UGH. |

Assassin's Creed
Played 1 and 2 then had enough of mission failures from tailing someone, running competitions, various other tight countdowns and whathaveyou. Shame, as I loved the climbing. Call of Duty Stopped after Call of Duty 4. Had enough of war FPS, at least for now. Too samey. Gears of War Easy for me as there are no sequels on the PC anyway, but I also didn't like the end boss in the first game. It was ruthless. Hitman Tried the first three games, but never clicked fully with the research+fail+retry (trial and error) mission design. Sherlock Holmes Tried the two first adventure games by Frogwares. The last had uncool memory puzzles, stealth, and a timed maze. Serious Sam The second game failed to impress me the way the first one did. I also felt most of the humor fell flat in it. Splinter Cell Played the first three games. I actually liked the stealth in them, but sometimes the developers felt it was necessary to have unavoidable action shooting sequences, and I absolutely hated those. |

Diablo- when people that made your superior sequel leave the team-never expect the same result for the third game.
Metal Gear: Solid was amazing, Sons of Liberty was Terribad, and Snake Eater was Great. Guns of the patriots....well...too sporatic for me so i will just skip REVENGEANCE Inevitable Call of Duty reply. |

Call of Duty - Dropped the series after the second game, but before that I was playing Medal of Honor and I got tired of war first-person shooters in general.
Guitar Hero - I was hoping for continued support of the games I already owned instead of having to buy a new one every six months. EA Sports FIFA - Stopped buying EA Sports games in the end of the '90s. EA Sports NBA Live EA Sports NFL Madden EA Sports NHL Mario - Last game I bought in the series was Super Mario World. Tony Hawk - The last one I bought was THPS3, but I've played a few more iterations with friends. Zelda - The last one I got was A Link to the Past. I suspect Metal Gear and Final Fantasy will join the series above soon. |

final fantasy
VII was amazing and I really enjoyed VIII. Didnt bother with IX. No idea why it just didnt interest me. I played but not sure i finished X (the all female cast one). Then played the online one and it was just aweful. Stopped after that. diablo 1 was fun but 2 was better. I got totally hooked on that and still own and play it now and then. 3 came out with to many changes to interest me. No character building with talent trees was to much of a change for me. I loved making different builds. Played the free trial but it didnt convince me. Wont buy. GTA 1 and 2 (old top down ones) were so much fun. 3 had the awe factor with being a 3d open world. Didn't complete it but still was impressive. Vice city was brilliant but mainly due to the setting. San Andreas was OK (the gang one) and I played it a fair amount, didnt complete it. IV wasn't that great. Completed it because it had some form of a midly interesting story line but really just had nothing else to play at the time. I thought the online was badly implemented, the cars were horrid to drive and the missions structure was still the same old "do tons of missions for someone who you have no real reason to trust for a bit of info, but he screws you over anyway" and repeat. Not interested in V at all really. Assassins Creed 1 - showed potential but was flawed 2 - was better but still didnt really click with me. Completed it but over a long time just playing it now and then. Brotherhood - really enjoyed and got stuck into it. Revelations - I started.... was OK..... realised its basically the same as brotherhood but now with added tower defence missions I didnt want to play..... turned it off.... havn't played since. Also didn't help that Desmond's story just isn't remotely interesting when it should be. Each iteration creeps his story along at a snails pace. Il Wiki it. I am kinda interested in AC3 though but really interested in the Vita one coming. |

Definitely Zelda games. I've loved every game up to the point of Wind Waker. With Wind Waker you could see something had started to go wrong with the random fetch quest near the end, but thankfully the rest of the game was awesome as usual. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword however are the worst Zelda games yet. Both terrible for slightly different reasons and yet both are draining to play. I dragged myself through Twilight Princess and I've yet to finish Skyward Sword due to how bad it is. Nintendo really needs to fix the Zelda games for next gen. *goes back to playing Wind Waker, Minish Cap, OoT 3D, and MM*

Devil May Cry
Tekken Soul Calibur God of War Gears of War I just found myself getting bored with all of those, whether it be due to no innovation or mix up in the series or that I stopped enjoying that genre. I admit I am also very close to giving up Resident Evil and Splinter Cell at this point too. EDIT: Oh and Battlefield too, wtf happened to this series after BC2? :(

For me it's definitely the God of War series. At a certain point the brutality stopped feeling like guilty pleasure fun and began giving off a downright hateful vibe. I'd find myself in a bad mood whenever I played part three. I was like, you know what? I play games to make myself happy. I think I'm done with these. Haven't gone back.

Devil May Cry. DMC4 wasn't what I wanted and DmC doesn't look like anything I want either. That franchise is very nearly dead to me now.
New Final Fantasy games. Man, I just don't care anymore... I loved FFX/XII and even enjoyed X-2 to an extent. Now? Not even a drop of giving a fuck is in my tank. That entire franchise could die tomorrow and I wouldn't bat an eyebrow. Again, FFX/XII are amongst my most beloved games of all time too... Resident Evil looks like the next one to go. I loved 4 and only mildly enjoyed 5. 6? Man, I feel absolutely nothing when I look at that game. No matter how many trailers and walkthroughs I watch, I feel no desire to spend a dime on that thing. The game has.. no... soul, ya know? It just looks and feels empty. |

That's a tough question because while I haven't picked up a lot of the sequels or finished the games of series I used to play a lot (Mario, Mass Effect, COD for example) I can't honestly say that I wouldn't try them again. I'm always open to what developers might do with their franchises in the future.
