Who are drawing battle lines, and what are those lines? Who are the good guys and bad guys? There's an equivocation here that if read literally is understandably objectionable. It seems that may have not been your intent. Can you clarify?

I just meant that in general, people feel like they always have to fight each other and win when they have different feelings about something. And the first thing people do when they encounter a distasteful opinion is that they use that to define who people are. Does that mean that those who don't care about these "traditional family" donations are unfairly labeled? No. Does it mean that people might achieve their own goals more successfully if they weren't so totally uncompromising in how they deal with people, people who sometimes lean the same way they do but just aren't resolute or passionate enough? Maybe. I assume people discuss things to learn and grow and cause the same in others.

I just got out of a conversation in another thread about Batman movies, so pardon this: it's what we do that defines us. So I think it's natural and understandable to judge based on actions and the values they express. I echo the general sentiment about wanting to all get along, but this is an issue that understandably elicits strong emotions; people's lives are being dramatically impacted. So I think it's also understandable that passions are strong; some things are worth being passionate about, even combative.

I appreciate the explanation. Enjoy the pot.

Nobody is saying don't eat whatever you want, dress in whatever you want, buy whatever you want. People are saying that if feel and want to make a conscious decision to not give your money to a place that is doing something wrong(If you believe they aren't is another topic). Than there are other options.

If you're starving late at night coming from work and are craving Chick fil-fuckin-A. Go ahead and buy it. There is nothing wrong in buying food from them. It is literally impossible to avoid not giving your money to less than noble companies. What people were getting banned and shouted down for was the "lolz gonna get me some chicken now!" and the "Who cares" none-sense in this very thread. If someone were to post a pic about their order from there in any other thread on GAF, nobody would care at all. It's context dependant.

There is no pride or guilt to be had in getting food from them. If it possible though and not incredibly out of your way, avoiding them is just a decent thing to do since they're for holding down the rights of others. Simply laughing about and saying "It's just chicken" misses the point entirely. Because in a way we all support things. And chuckling about getting food when the news is fresh just comes off as insulting and less than respectable to your fellow human beings.

There are only two CFA in my area that I am aware of. One is the local mall and one is about 40 minutes away. I never go to these places in the first place because I hate the mall and I'm not driving 40 minutes for a sandwich, but this story really wouldn't stop me from eating at this establishment if it was a reasonable option for me.

Let's not confuse morally right and factually "right". This is an incorrect analogy.

Uhh...I was just responding to the guy saying that it's easy to cook your own food, and that "Needing people to cook for you is like asking people to wipe your ass." I wasn't talking about chick-fil-a specifically. I plan to boycott them myself, as I've said in this thread before. (Not that that's a big deal for me, since I rarely ate there even before I heard they were run by a bunch of religious fanatics.)

I think one can like Chik-Fil-A, and one can even do business with them, without being an opponent of civil rights/gay marriage. You can't boycott everything- I am willing to throw boycotts out, but I have bigger issues- I will boycott over consumer and workforce issues.

Personally, I don't like their stance on this issue, but they're consistent, and do things like close on Sunday and (from what I've heard) don't mistreat their workers, so they do practice it both ways- they're willing to take a hit in the pocketbook for what they believe in. Even if I don't agree with that (and I don't), I do have some respect for that.

Personally, I like their stuff, but I have other options I like more, so I go there. I did stop going to a couple of businesses because they supported Amendment Dumb here. (I live in NC)

IMO that's a BS response and doesn't even address any of the other money they donate to anti-gay causes that are not outright only about gay marriage. Some of the organizations Chick-Fil-A has given money to are IMO just outright hate groups.

Basically we'll still take your money gay people.

And yet even AFTER that response people are still boycotting, and the Jim Henson Company still felt it was necessary to cut all ties with Chick-Fil-A and give all the money they've received to GLAAD.

Unfortunately, the mentality that led to this statement in the first place is the result of deeply ingrained dogma. I remember when my former pastor from my decidedly ex-church once pontificated about how the owner of Chick-Fil-A is "blessed" because he "honors god" by closing on Sundays. This is what these people really believe. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how the restaurant will be able to keep maintaining its discriminatory tactics in the face of changing social norms.

It's south of Atlanta.

There isn't anybody in this thread (at least in the last few pages) bragging about not eating at Chick-Fil-A. The only people bragging are those who find the need to let everybody know that they'll continue to support the restaurant because they think fried chicken is more important than civil rights.

I would bet my hat that half the Chick-Fil-A board isn't only engaging in discreet homosexual interludes on the side, but going all-out with orgies and BDSM. The larger the rift between one's daily life and sexuality, the bigger the turn-on. Most people know this.

On a related note, every "Chick-Fil-A is anti-gay" discussion turns into an incredible advert for the food itself. Be it on GAF or elsewhere.

Now, regardless, I will never be a patron to any organization "founded on biblical principles." I have principles that are founded on actual morality.
