Same reason they won't put the comic con trailer online. They're completely out of touch with audience reaction.

You think the general public still gives a shit about Superman in 2012? He's unfunny, quasi invulnerable and has the powers of a god.

I hate Zack Snyder and I think that Superman is a poor character that you pretty much can't make a good movie out of, but that was a good trailer.
Very good even.

I didn't notice him moving his arms forward at the sonic boom before.

Not a great teaser, but I like Clark hitchhiking. The temptation to fly must be great.

edit: Jor-el trailer is nicer.

As the only person on the internet who hasn't committed Lord of the Rings to memory, the music gave me chills.

As for the ship, it's pretty obvious he's working on it, not that the Kents were Fishers.

And as for the hitch hiking, I'm gonna go with this movie being a soft reboot and the kryptonite island from the last one robbed him of his powers temporarily.

Or they're doing a pastiche of that awful story where he walks across America to connect with the common man and his country. One of the two.

Also, Superman is cool. He is the embodiment of everything that is good and noble about humanity. Anybody who doesn't like him has deep-seated issues.

The average movie goer will have no clue that Snyder directed this. They will only remember Nolan's name in the same way Jerry Bruckheimer overshadows directors.

What makes Superman such an appealing character is not his power, but how he uses that power, and how he constantly has to restrain himself. He constantly has to be mindful that he is seen as an icon to regular people. He's a symbol of hope.

I personally don't really get the hate for Superman. Then again, my father is a huge Superman fan, and I grew up on the comics and the Donner movies.

That's the problem most people have with Superman. They don't see him as as symbol of hope and that things can be changed to be better if we just strive to be a "super"man, they see him as a goody-two-shoes and a boy scout. Oblivious to the world and its problems. The fuck are you talking about, Superman wants to fix the world's problems. He has to hold back all his might so he doesn't kill anyone.

As someone who his exposure to Superman is almost exclusivity the movies, I don't think this is something that comes through to the casual fan.
When in the movies did Superman had to restrain himself?
And note how they have to de-power him in some way on every movie to create some sort of real conflict, they were never able to build a compelling narrative around his restraint (and I'm not sure that they ever tried).
