Nothing wrong with eating somewhere by yourself. Times like that my iphone is my best friend (insert your phone of choice here).

And really, who are you trying to impress? To hell what some strangers think.

I'd rather eat alone than with someone who cannot for five seconds put his phone down.

I dont think its that. Its just that its uncomfortable just being at a place by yourself. For me, at least. Dining out has always been a social thing for me. If I'm just sitting around with nobody to talk to, it just doesn't seem like much fun. If I really wanted food from there, I'd just order to-go.

EDIT: Lunch is a bit different. Maybe not a restaurant, but dining at some place is pretty normal on a break.

Thats not the same as eating it alone in a restaurant. Bring the pizza to a sit down restaurant, and eat it alone. Report back.

I just did it about an hour ago. There was no one else in the place except staff. Then some weirdo came and sat at the table right in front of me. Whole place is empty and he sits directly in front of me. O.o

I am also eating out alone right now. I eat here by myself every Saturday. Several of the staff here recognize me and my waitress knew my drink order before I even told her. Feels good.

I don't mind. It's not something I do frequently though. I'm in college right now so it's not difficult to find someone who wants to go grab a bite to eat. Occasionally on weekends when I have alot of work to do, I'll go solo and grab some chinese or something. I just make sure to bring something to do. Like reading a textbook or my labtop or something. I generally avoid excessively crowded places, and go at slightly odd times. Like a bit after 1'ish or something.

No problem here, although I typically won't go out of my way to do it.

No problem with going to see a movie alone, either. Actually prefer that sometimes.

It depends on the restaurant. For example, eating alone at a fast food restaurant is fine. But a fancy restaurant? Not really.

I guess the same way some people think that complete strangers spend 2 hours thinking about them rather than enjoying the film playing on a big screen.

I have a strong preference to eat alone. I often do my most productive thinking when I'm eating solo, it helps me to savor my meals, and over the years I've learned to dislike being around a lot of people who are eating. My lunches at work, where I snag a small table and enjoy an hour of peace in a corner, are often among my most productive and enjoyable hours of the day.

The shame scale of a pizza outweighs eating alone around people. You could be a busy person who just has time to eat a meal. You could just be eating a meal alone, as most normal people do. Its a non issue.

Eating a pizza in a room though.. well.. thats sad.

PS, its a large pizza. woot.

I ate alone the other night at what seemed to be "Happiest fucking couples on earth" night. Took a pic to show my bud, dinner for 1. Forever alone;

Fancy restaurants are the best to eat alone at if you want to focus on your food and don't want to end up paying more. Plus more wine for me. Yesss.

I've eaten alone a few times, one of those times was breakfast at a diner. Pretty much exactly like the movies, and I even ended up talking to a few of the regulars there and had some nice chats.

What is wrong with going to a nice restaurant and treating yourself to a good meal? Sitting back and enjoying a film on your own? In a world where we are constantly surrounded by family, friends, co workers, acquaintances, and GF/BF/wife/husband/fiance, its nice to get out and do something by yourself.

Because going out to eat is a social custom in many cultures? Doing it by yourself feels...out of place. Like going to the movies, mingolf or bowling by yourself.

Because social norms. Thats it, we are raised to think a certain way about those activities and anyone breaking those norms are going to seem out of place. Personally I dont see anything wrong with it

I've done it before many times (not in a fancy restaurant though). I typically end up just bringing my iPad with me and surf the web while eating. Nothing wrong with it, especially when it's at an eating establishment that has other people who do it too.

Some servers give you more attention if you're by yourself. Of course, some servers pay less attention because a single meal has a lower tip.
