Geggy Tah - Whoever You Are

Tracy Bonham - Mother Mother

Local H - Bound for the Floor

Butthole Surfers - Pepper - Yeah, I know they were together long before, but they've been pretty under the radar in comparison to the insane play that this got.

SO many one-hit wonders in that decade.

I remember this song getting tons of airplay, but by the time the band had actually gotten around to touring, their concerts were canceled due to "lack of interest".

Internet ftw, it's funny last time most of us were listening to all these songs if we didn't own the CD's we'd be waiting for MTV or the radio to loop them around again, now they are instant.

Not my thing. Song is horrible. but whatever you think, you can't argue there's a HUGE division in music right around 1995/1996 or so when alternative died, ska got big, then boy bands and pop crap took over.

What about Torn by Natalie Imbruglia? I remember it being number one on Casey Kasem's Top 40 for... ever. But I can't really remember what else she may have had. Same thing with Criminal by Fiona Apple.

Orgy, in '98.

Blue Monday is like one of those songs that everybody covers unofficially for some reason. It's like a rite of passage.

Lots of good songs in this thread (and some bad ones...)

I had forgotten about Stars, I always liked that song.

Here's a couple more:

Butthole Surfers - Pepper
Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand

The sad thing about the Nada Surf mention is that the band went on to release several excellent albums. Let Go in particular is very good.

The most obvious: The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You I wonder how much money this band has made from that show. You gotta figure they get some payment from the residuals of Friends being in syndication right?

Also, some of the answers here are a bit off:

The Wallflowers had other hits besides One Head Light. The Difference, Three Marlenas and their cover of David Bowie's Heroes which was featured on that godawful remake of Godzilla.

Fastball had a pretty big followup hit to The Way called Fire Escape

Whoever said Hypnotize by The Notorious BIG shold be ashamed of themselves.

I remember this one getting a lot of play. The rest of the album is pretty different, which surprised me back then.

I thought the girl on the keyboard was hot, and even the lead singer made me feel kinda funny.

not exactly a new concept, even in the 1990s.

As long as people don't put Alice in Chains, At the Drive-In, The Verve, Sunny Day Real Estate or Cranberries, we good. How pop do we have to talk here?

Sugar Ray's prime is distant but they had more than one "hit."

This topic would also be good for "bands who released albums in the 90's that I liked."

Thought of a few other ones.

Anyone remember this song by Frente! ?
Frente! - Labour of Love

Also, in the late 90's European MTV had these guys on all the time. My friends used to laugh at how stupid this song was. (Even if it's kind of catchy)
Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler

Edit: Had to add in The Connells. Amazing. Song.
The Connells - '74 - '75
