Any T.V. shows with GOOD music? #1

The video games soundtrack thread made me think about music in T.V. and this is a complaint I've had for a while, at least within the past decade: the vast majority of T.V. scores are utterly forgettable. There's very few I can think of that are even remotely good.

Course, this was made like 10 years ago, so it probably doesn't even count, which shows how pathetic it's been.

Are there any shows that I've missed that have good soundtracks? Prove me wrong, gaf.

Carnivale score is still probably the best orchestrated music i've ever heard

Jeff Beal also did an amazing score for Rome. haven't heard any of his other work but just for these two shows, he's probably my favorite composer

Do you mean licensed music, or original scores? Because Freaks and Geeks had an awesome licensed soundtrack. All the songs chosen were perfect for the scenes they appeared in.

The intro song is awesome, I've only seen one episode so far, but if that's a sign of what's to come, it'll probably have many songs that I love.

Unless the show is Supernatural.

As far as original scores go Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra have some extremely good music. Some of the links are spoilers, have spoilers in comments, or spoilers on the side so don't click if you plan on watching!

Source? While Gibbs scored the miniseries (and his name remains tied to the S1 soundtrack), McCreary scored the entirety of the first season after Gibbs' movie commitments made it impossible for him to continue with the show.

Off the top of my head.

The entire DCAU
One Piece
Cowboy Bebop
Doctor Who (Murray Gold)
Phineas and Ferb (more for the original songs than the background score)

There's more but I'll have to think about it

Breaking Bad has some brilliant original compositions but it probably only works in the context of the show.

Battlestar Galactica is pretty awesome too.

Yeah, I presumed as much - McCreary handled S1 beyond the miniseries (and was involved in it as well).

And while I don't want to pretend that I'm necessarily an expert on the subject on TV at all times, I did spend a semester researching a paper on his career, so this is one case where I'll reluctantly accept the title. Accordingly, here's a Musicians@Google talk where he discusses the early scoring process on BSG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...inFAQN4#t=981s.

Damn straight.

And if you are talking about pop songs in a series, wasn't The OC like the pioneer in this regard? I don't remember any shows really focusing on delivering great music set to the tone of the show before The OC, or anybody releasing "Music from the show" CD compilations like they did.
