edit: Maybe DCUO, I have never tried that game. Oh, and maybe RAGE? But I think that one is 8GB. |

Are they going to write on the box that you can't play DCUO with that system ?

How does MGS4 work now? From what I assume it installs chucks every chapter (that can be deleted after you're on the next one?), still possible with the patch?
Doubt it's a typo at this point |

Around 10.5GB i think. I deleted it recently to free up some space. |

If not a typo thats absolutely retarded. What point is 16GB on a system where one install will destroy all of your space?

I'm taking it FROM here

And really, as you can upgrade with a standard HDD, it's actually a great deal IMHO. |

It's a basic model for market penetration (if true), and at this stage in the PS3's lifecycle, it won't be surprising if they release it. I really doubt it's a typo since it was found on an official correspondence.

It should also be obvious, then, that having next to no space when you need space to even play a lot of games means that Sony has disincentivized buying games.

Yep, this means that you dont have to pay any extra for a HDD if you plan on upgrading it anyway.

Thats why it seems crazy to me. They automatically limit the amount of games you can play, and when software is where the money is - why do that? |

It also comes down to which games you're going to play. Some games doesnt require any installation at all, while others might require a few GB. It should definitelly be manageable, especially for those who are only going to play a few games.

Digital downloads are another story entirely; inFamous 2, for example, is about 15 gigs installed, which would obviously be way too much for the 16 gig model. |

There's a handful of games that are huge, like GT5. Other than that you'd just have to be careful with full game downloads. Those will destroy your storage.
As for the people confused about the 16gigs, it's obviously just a ploy at make an appealing entry system, the same strategy MSoft had used with it's $99 box. You get the box in people's homes and then they'll buy accessories later. Bottom line is also the same -- don't get the entry level system. |

With this thread I remembered what I was wondering the other day:
Is there a comprehensive (updated) list of the PS3 games that have some sort of installation feature/mandatory install? I think that that kind of list would be a handy thing to have for those that are planning to buy the base 16 gb model. (Yes, depending on the price, I'm planning to buy one of those. And yes, I am that poor, I always need to make every penny count if I want to buy something videogame-related, so no 160 gb ps3 slim for me) |

A histogram of required game installs for all PS3 games would enlighten many. People tend to "count the hits", that is remember the large installs and forget the small or zero ones. A casual person picking up a random game is likely going to be able to play many games before having to delete data. Buying a full retail game from the PS Store is not something a low end 16GB owner should do knowing the limitation of going cheap.
A 16GB is a great gateway drug. Get in cheap and upgrade the HD later if you play more than anticipated. A much better idea than buying a 160GB system and upgrading it later. |

i don't think the ~5gb installs for both yakuza 3 & 4 were optional |

I have a 160gb model and I've used way less than 16gb of it. Not every ps3 user is downloading or installing tons of stuff. And you can always toss in a generic HDD anyway. As long as it's priced less than $200, it's a great option.

But large installs used to be the norm and have settled down but this doesn't matter to new buyers of the 16 gig flash unit since they won't know what is new and what is old... everything will be new to them. |
