Ahh, can't quote a post in a closed thread, so a recreation of my previous post.
Some people say they're related so I'll keep the free games there, though from the descriptions it doesn't seem that way to me? Anyways:

Okay so I've been trying to write some sort of recommendation for Analogue:A Hate Story or at least one of the other Christine Love games, but it's difficult because I only ever played one of the games. But I'll still try to get a few people to at least check out the first two free games she released, because everybody likes free stuff! Digital: A Love Story (for 0 moneys here) is pretty much a text only affair and clocks in at about an hour long. It's a "computer mystery/romance" which has you scouring the BBSes of the world in pursuit of who might be the girl of your dreams. That's the one I played and liked quite a bunch. Kieron Gillen on RPS had the following to say: : Attention-getting top line: right now, I can’t think of a better love story in the western medium. The proviso on that statement is the “right now”. I’m in a jetlagged state, so there’s all sorts of things I’m missing – like full control of my limbs, and eyes which see an unblurred world – so I’m not going to give it a GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER WITH KISSES AND HUGS AND FLOWERS AND SPECIAL HOLDING award. But it’s a game which I played a couple of weeks back, and has stuck with me ever since. The latter means it’s an instant turn off for some, but quite frankly I suspect anyone with so stubborn a reaction was never going to take all that well to an only semi-interactive tale of emotional drama and catastrophe anyway. [..] While I can’t help but feel it’s a slightly lesser game than the starkly affecting anonymity of Digital, none of this undoes the powerful tragic-comic horror of watching young lives collapse and rebuild and collapse and rebuild. It’s happened to us all: errant crushes, unflinching belief that you know love, utter devastation following rejection, fear to act, the sick of thrill of knowledge you shouldn’t have… Visual novel it may loosely be, but this isn’t simply an observation – it’s direct action. One last time RPS's Alec Meer shall have the word: : You could technically call Analogue: A Hate Story a visual novel, but that would be a little like saying a panther was ‘just a cat.’ Analogue doesn’t so much evolve the largely linear, information drip-feed structure of visual novels as mutate it wildly, chop it up into chunks then offer it up to you in a tin you can pluck the parts out of as you like. It’s a detective story first and foremost, with you as the detective. A sort of space-Poirot if you like, but one whose only forms of communication are picking a left or a right answer to someone else’s questions, rather than Belgian bon-mots and moustache-stroking. [...] Analogue is the missing link between visual novels and adventure games, with a touch of RPG-style NPC relationship-juggling thrown in, and while I suspect it’s more a glorious aberration than a watershed moment for a genre many gamers have quite understandably struggled to understand the appeal of, it’s certainly a great leap forwards for Christine Love. Yes, I do personally question the wisdom of using that visual style, on both a commercial level and in terms of atmosphere, but, putting that aside, Analogue is a sit-up-and-take-notice achievement in storytelling, in interface, in research, in mechanics and in moral ambiguity. It got into my head, and I suspect it’s going to stay there for a while. I don’t ask much more from a game. Oh, also, anyone who enjoys puzzle games needs to play the best puzzle game ever made: 4.99 This was my GOTY last year. Over Portal 2. Over Skyward Sword. Stood this game, tall and proud. Fan-fucking-tastic game.

Definitely going to go back to it at some point in the future though and give it another chance.

That's why its an amazing game. Every other level is a seemingly impossible gauntlet, but when you conquer it you feel like the king of everything. It just hits that sweet spot of putting your brain through the wringer while leaving you intact.

I remember playing a demo of this on the Xbox. One of the powers I had was the ability to turn the world upside-down in order to deal with crowds of enemies.

I'm not sure if these games are popular on here. But the Cthulhu Saves the World & Breath of Death VII Double Pack is seriously awesome. Super cheap and both games are awesome, particularly Cthulhu Saves the world.

I can personally vouch for And Yet It Moves. It's a great puzzle-platformer with a distinctive visual style. The central rotation mechanic is pretty simple, but it's applied in clever ways and the game doesn't overstay its welcome. $2.50 is a really good price for it.

Edit: Shatter and World of Goo are also great, if you somehow haven't heard of either yet.

Christine Love's games.

I approve of this post 100%. Analogue's my favorite PC game so far this year, actually, and I am having a hard time believing something will replace it. It can be tricky to sell this without spoiling a few critical things, but just the way it slowly unwraps and reveals itself is really quite brilliant. And the final Pale Bride letter was ... man. I had such an enormous reaction to that. No game has ever done anything like that to me before.

$5 is a steal for Analogue, GAF.

i'm enjoying Blades of Time (bought it during this current sale). i'm a big fan of action/adventure/hack n slash ...ie, Heavenly Sword, God of War, etc. and think its pretty good. worth a look if you're a big fan of the genre.

i also own EDF: Insect Armageddon ....bought it when it first came out on PC, and really enjoyed it. had a blast playing it with friends ...but i'm thinking that the online community probably isn't very populated at this point in time (tho i could be wrong). i really enjoyed it tho ...lots of fun blowing up tons of various bugs, etc. the worst part about it was that the game was originally frame capped @ 30fps, but someone released a 60fps patched .exe for it. made the game 100% better ...looked great @ 60fps and it didn't affect the ability for people to join your game online or anything.

Okay since these were the last new deals anyway, I might want to get your attention to a game I wasnt even aware of being on Steam. I LOVED it, and here were my original impressions:

Its definitely worth 10 bucks. One of the best and truest to the roots adventures when you liked the Sierra Adventures like Kings Quest VIII. Some Puzzles are a bit out of the world but you are definitely in for a treat. Its definitely my favorite adventure by FAR of the recent years. Actually I was thinking about creating an OT when it came out here, but it wasnt out in America yet and I wanted to wait. Well seems I missed that point. The game is great, has some unbelievably charming characters, smart puzzles (that get hard later on) and a very memorable ending. The Whispered World is a great, one of the best and definitely the most underrated of the recent adventure games. Highly recommended. The voice of Sadwick is annoying though.

I really liked the Tales of Monkey Island and the Sam and Max games as well, but there werent many other "classical" adventure games on par in my opinion. it really pushes the feeling Sierra was going for.

Oh and its beautiful:





Fair warning, though: The cinematics are not as beautiful as the rest of the game and the voice of the main character might get annoying.

Thinking about this game makes me feel happy. Its also actually the only game me, my girlfriend and my sister played through. My sister hasnt touched any videogame since Diablo 2 and just for the record: Its about 20 hours long.

I'll be back with some "new" impressions on some other games later if I have the time.

Nope, all of those are quality adventures. Admittedly I haven't played the Still Life games in awhile but I remember them being pretty good. Oh, and Still Life is actually a sequel to Post Mortem which is also on Steam.
