Total Biscuit does Natural Selection 2 (fantastic video + a lot of improvements)
#1
So I played the alpha about six months ago and was very impressed with the progress they made.
But after watching this video I decided to jump back again because improvements over the initial alpha I saw 6 months ago are nothing compared to what I saw in this video. It's amazing. UI is totally reworked. No you can see commander's orders and a path to the waypoint right on your screen. Every time something is researched you recieve a notification on the screen. Graphics on the level 3 were tighten up. Their preorders jumped 800% after this video was posted. Watch it if you haven't bought the game yet, it's very informative. Looking forward to playing with new people online. |

shame the hitreg is so bloody bad. You get all those hallmarks of p2p gaming where it feels like you need to unload a whole mag into someone to kill them whilst you die in 2 bullets/bites, despite running on dedi's. Hope they can fix it before they release 1.0. They've made a lot of progress and the Lerk is the funnest class to play as IMO.
Still like it though. Shame it's not going to be as responsive or fast as NS1. |

It's supposed to have a Summer 2012 release. I was going to buy the pre-order package at some point but did not have a decent enough PC at the time.
Haven't watched the video either, but if it's anything like the first NS, I'd be really up for it. The time I spent on NS1... it was one of the better mods I've played. Too bad it's pretty dead now but hopefully the playerbase will go over to NS2. |

I preordered from Day one having been a massive fan of the first. The alpha and early beta was god-awful and I was kind of getting concerned, but I have to say the current beta is absolutely fantastic.
The first one was one of the most popular Half-Life mods. It still is great. |

There's some glaring frame rate issues in the OP's video. If they are playing on TB's actually gaming PC, I imagine the lower end PC's will suffer tremendously.
I hope that stuff gets fixed, because I'll be damned if one of my most anticipated fps games in the last 3-5 years will be ruined by technical issues. |

Also it's not his sli setup, it's UW's setup afaik. He visited their studio to record this. |

Wow. This game looks like great fun. I remember installing and trying the original Natural Selection back in the day but being so confused as to what was going on that I just uninstalled it after 30 minutes. This looks like everything I loved about AvP multiplayer.
So what's the deal with the game? Where is their main website? Do you pre-order for less money and get instant access to the Beta, or are you instead allowed in in waves or groups? |

The game has really been shaping up great the last couple of months and I think all main features (jetpack, heavy armor, Onos, dynamic infestation) are implemented at this point. I've been trying the alpha from time to time and it's really beginning to look and feel like a proper game.
A word of warning for those of you contemplating on pre-ordering; You need an absolute beast of a PC to run this at a consistent framerate, and they don't do refunds. Though some people might find it playable, certain areas on a few maps really kill the framerate to the point of taking the fun away, especially with a few people on the server. And I don't have a particulary weak computer (i7 2600k and a decent Crossfire-setup). So be adviced, if you are really picky with a consistent framerate you might want to give this a pass, unless you have a $2000 computer. On a related note, does this game have an OT?

I'll admit while watching the video at the beginning I wasn't completely sold on it (I'm very picky about my FPS), but as the game went on things got more and more interesting and now I think I'll just have to buy this thing, it honestly looks like great fun all around. I'm a sucker for more strategic (less dudebro) shooters with fun and challenging multiplayer and a unique mechanic, and while this evokes a lot from the Alien Vs Predator games, it seems to take it a step further and has a good variety all-around to keep matches interesting. Jumping on this, hoping to convince some friends to as well.

Regarding my last post about the poor performance, this forum post from yesterday tells us they acknowledge there is a problem and that they have a team of programmers working on it full time:

TB Just put up the 3rd video with the commander and I love how well the RTS blends with the game.
If I had a few more friends and a few more bucks I'd get it instantly, hell I might have to get it anyhow. |
