If this gets archived, I'm happy that I manage to participate in one.

if this rip-off is going to be like what uncharted did to tomb raider, then I am all for it.

Red Hot Rumble is nothing like Smash Bros. beyond being 2D and four players.

It does not matter that that the game was made by his colleagues. The fact is he is a hypocrite and considering he has not even played the game that plays nothing like Smash and arrived at the conclusion he did makes him an idiot.

True Self Urvan is speaking: See I love CTR as much as the next guy, I even back than loved it more than Mario Kart but now I come to realize Mario Kart is superior, but no matter how inferior it's to Mario Kart, it's still great game among a great Library of games from Sony. And back then sony was the shit.

So view it like this then - that VJ game was crap. What do you think will his idea towards other attempts at Smash-esque games? Mind you that there are many other Smash-esque games and only few managed to be good for some odd reason.

Do you honestly not see how All Stars is a Smash Bros rip-off? It's a 2.5D mascot brawler with similar stage design and combat. Just because the fighting mechanics are slightly different does not mean the game isn't a rip-off.

I don't know if it's been discussed at length, but could it have anything to do with a western developer handling a Smash clone?

Inspiration doesn't always mean copy cat design or imitation. |

Neither does have similar stage design nor does the fighting mechanics only slightly different. It plays differently. It is definitely inspired by Smash just like many brawler fighters that came before it. Just like tons of FPS that came after Wolf 3D were inspired by Wolf 3D. It is in no way a rip off. Atleast if you actually played the beta I assume you would know this. Have you?

Who said it was copied. I said it was inspired. Neither is PSABR a copy cat design or imitation. It was just inspired.

Are you saying Kamiya is a racist?! He likes God of War more than Ninja Gaiden and those two games have been his competitors for 10 years.

He usually make these tweets in response to people asking if he's interested in the game, and most of the time he's not. |

Don't waste your breath brother, they will never understand the true meaning of ripoffs because if they did they will understand their gaming lives was a rip off of our (Nintendo fans) gaming life. They blind themselves from the truth, they just want to continue to live the lie!

That's 17 different franchises, and not including Yoshi and Wario which both could be considered their own spin-offs of Mario. PSABR will definitely end up sporting a couple more franchises than just those in terms of its playable characters but it isn't enough to be significant. The fact that some of these represented franchises have multiple characters also is, I would think, a plus opposed to a minus. How are more characters a bad thing?
2. Red Hot Rumble was not like Smash Bros. 3. Red Hot Rumble was not very good. 4. Kamiya actually did state how he didn't like Red Hot Rumble but it came out after he had any ability to affect the Viewtiful Joe franchise.

Side A/B (reversible) ![]() ![]() It was original developed by Bandai/Namco and PUBLISHED by Nintendo in 1986. Nintendo the bought the rights and re-released a revised mat design and game(s) in 1988. |

I guess I got confused because Red Hot Rumble isn't even a four player head-to-head brawler/fighting game as much as it is a collection of competitive minigames. Shows what I know!

I'm not getting the game, but I appreciate that its coming out, smash brothers improved on the fighters megamix formula by adding 2 extra players total and a sinple system, Sony's game seems to be improving the forula by taking out the silly stuff (tripping foes, ring outs to win) and towing the line between true a fighter and a party game better than Smash Brothers..
If Kamiya wants to hate, let him, but burning bridges with an entire company because you're riding the phallus of another is bad form, if it was Sony copying a game he worked on, I'd understand, but so soon after the reveal of his new family friendly nintendo exclusive is too suspect to take seriously. |

Is the game a ripoff in the literal sense? Is it just superficially similar while innovating? Does this even matter at all when subjectively evaluating its worth? I don't know. All I know is that when the debate just seems to boil down into establishing whether it's a ripoff or whether it's merely inspired by a certain game, we're clearly just meandering in semantics. |

Probably one of the best kneejerk reactions I've ever seen.
I was just genuinely curious about his stance. Most all of the mascot brawlers are made in the east and this seems like something that would've been handed to a well established Japanese studio, given the pedigree. |

Also, lolwut at that second paragraph. Kamiya ain't playing favorites. And I still don't get the Fighters Megamix = Smash. It's a traditional fighting game, it's not "Smash with two less players". It's more of King of Fighters than Smash o_O |

The funniest part of all these debates is that this game will be lucky to ship a million copies worldwide. No one give a shit about Sony characters and the few that do dot want to play a mascot brawler.

Sure that is why God of War 3 and Uncharted sold more than Skyward Sword. Clearly no one gives a shit and of course only games which sell have to have the privilege of debates being centered around them.

It's gonna sell most likely due to the fact their hasn't been a smash game in 4 years. Alot of people still want more.
