Anyone else just not give a shit about superhero movies?
#1
The only superhero film I can say I've truly enjoyed was The Dark Knight, and that's entirely because of The Joker, who I actually just love as a character. In fact, I have yet to see The Dark Knight Rises--and I have absolutely no intention or desire to see it anytime soon--despite LOVING the second film (thought Begins was unmemorable, though).
Haven't seen any of the X-Mens, the Iron Mans, the Hulks; haven't seen Thor, or Captain American, or that Wolverine movie. Saw The Avengers and thought it was pretty fun, but I know I'll never see it again. And it didn't convince me to watch any of the individual hero films. |

I like comic books but don't get into comic book movies. I liked the Raimi Spiderman trilogy, X-Men, and Nolan's Batman trilogy, but I like the X-Men and Batman quite a bit, and I saw all of the Spiderman movies with family. I'm not much of a Marvel fan, so I haven't seen any of the other Marvel movies and have no desire to, and don't plan on watching Man of Steel, but I'm certainly not against comic book movies, especially if it gets more people into comics.
I'm not a big action movie fan though, so my disinterest isn't exclusive to comic book movies. |

About 20 films are released every month...it seems odd to complain about a genre, especially one you're not being FORCED to watch.
If you were being forced, well, that's a different argument, i.e. being forced to watch a slow romantic movie by the girlfriend. Is anyone forcing you? |

I love comics, but I rarely get that excited about superhero movies. I do love regular action movies though. The next movie i'm stoked about is expendables 2. Certainly going to see it opening night. I haven't bothered to see this summers huge blockbusters like the avengers and what not... Probably wait til they're on hbo or a friend lends me the dvd
I'm not sure why I'm this way. Just like a certain distinction between my different forms of media? |

It's sorta sad you'd judge a book by the cover like that. Give things a chance. Most trailers are horrible representations of the product anyway. Just made to grab your attention for 10 seconds.

Superhero movies are so varied these days it seems strange to dismiss the entire subgenre by default, especially if you have no experience with 99% of them beyond the marketing materials. |

Most of them are pretty awful, but there are some good ones. I like the first two BLADE films as action-horror. The first IRON MAN is funny at times and has some neat destruction. Ang Lee's HULK, despite its weak ending, is good pop drama and features fun editing tricks. WATCHMEN has striking imagery throughout and a fun soundtrack.
Non-comic superheros can be fun: ROBOCOP, DARKMAN, UNBREAKABLE, TOXIC AVENGER, etc. edit: funny, fun, fun.

Fight Club had an awful trailer. I saw it in theatres and was like 'well that sure looks stupid.' Little did I know that it would become my favorite movie of all time. |

I lost interest a few years back. I don't know if it is just because I'm old but I just can't get excited about another super-hero movie. I have no interest in them any more.

Go see DKR. Bane is right up there with Nicholson and Ledger's Jokers in that exclusive class of top superhero movie villains. Nothing else really compares... You'll probably still like TDK more because of Joker, but right now I think DKR is a better film overall.

Have you seen any of the spiderman movies? I haven't. I'm just not interested, I guess. Usually it's just a way to start a conversation. Only in a very small % of cases is the person actually just asking if he's the only person. Although I do hate it when people start a conversation with this line in order to start a circlejerk of an obvious thing. "Am I the only white boy who grew up in a middle class neighborhood with parents who didn't understand him who loves weed?" |
