A game with little advertising going platinum is damn good. A game from an unknown developer going platinum is absolutely great. A "niche" First Person Shooter going platinum when going up againsts established series like Battlefield, Assassins Creed, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, Command & Conquer and Dawn of War is absolutely astounding. These numbers might not shock you, but i think you are vastly overblowing the number of "gamers" You are definitely overblowing the number of "gamers" who Metro 2033 caters to. |

No, not really. One cool thing about Metro 2033 was the real time light sources, killing the lights before advancing was really cool, particularly in those Nazi base levels.
Overall it was an ok game...I played it once and beat it in 8 hours. Looking forward to Metro 2034 |

I've tried to get into it like 5 times. I always find myself bored as shit. It's a pretty game, but there's not really anything else I find myself liking about it. Maybe I'll try again some time.

It should have sold a lot more. Metro is one of the most unique shooters in gaming history. And perhaps the closest thing to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
I just hope that Last Light is a hit for THQ. 4A games need only one hit on their hands to be on par with the AAA developers of the world. Imagine just for a second a Metro game with the same resources that say a game like Half-Life 2, or Halo would get. Just thinking about it, sends chills down my spine. |

In the end of the day, after publishers cuts and whatnot, devs still get ~1/4th~1/5th of what they got from each day-one copy.
A developer could get the same money from a $15~$20 game they get from a $60 game if they could take out the publisher and retail costs. |

I just installed this yesterday and played a few hours. Really good game. The graphics are phenominal and I am on low settings 1400x900, I am guessing they would be much better not on a laptop. Anyways I am glad it did so well and I am looking forward for the next one. Pretty much make a game in a post apocalyptic setting and I will buy it day 1.

The retail version is a bit more than 10 Pounds on Amazon, double the price of the retail PC version there.

People still downplay games sold for discounted prices on the digital market, but these games sell without any distribution cost beside bandwidth, making them almost pure profit, and the publisher takes a way larger cut of the total price. From the top management of 1C:

I played Metro 2033 for the first time this year and I absolutely adored it. 1 million copies is great for a game like this even if most of those copies were sold at a lower price. As far as I know 2033 is a very low budget game for an FPS so they should have easily made a profit on the game. Can't wait for Last Light.
