The official 'Sharpshooter' is apparently a really solid accessory.
Resistance 3 is probably the best game that makes use of it. I've heard Killzone 3 is bad but does the motion controls well. edit: This is not based on personal experience just on what I've heard.

If you plan to play more lightgun games (HOTD) it'd be better to go ahead and get one of those pistol looking shells because using the Sharpshooter with those is badddddddd |

The sharpshooter looks nice, and uses the extra port in the move to map some buttons, but works kinda meh in several games, in Dead Space Extraction is awesome, so is in House of the Dead Overkill, in the rest, not so much, i kinda regret buying it.
I would suggest you the official gun shell, cheap, comfortable, and works just fine.

Hmmm, I'm guessing I'm totally wrong on my opinion. |

Ohhhhh, that's pretty game breaking.
With that in mind, is calibrating supposed to be a bitch? I just fired it up for the first time this morning, without any sort of gun shell, and the crosshair was all over the place. I've been shooting all my life and the aiming with just the wand was so inaccurate I stopped playing after five minutes. |

Calibrating can be a pain in the ass, yes.
You should take a look at one of the several TTPīs videos about the move calibration, really good stuff http://www.iwaggle3d.com/ |

Yeah just get the Sharpshooter and Resistance 3 (best Move shooter by far). It takes some getting used to but after 30 minutes or so with it the first time, I found it far more engaging than using a controller could ever hope to be. Especially with the variety of awesome weapons in R3.
There is a massive 10-15 minute firefight at one point in Resistance 3 in New York that is just pure FPS euphoria and it was not the same with a Dualshock.

I don't like the Sharpshooter. For games with an adjustable camera the sharpshooter makes it a clunky experience. It's fine for on-rails lightgun games with static cameras.
TTP, who I believe is behind the site iwaggle3d.com is also not a big fan of the sharpshooter. IMO, don't buy a gun shell. It's a much more comfortable and accurate experience holding the Move and Nav in your hands.

has anyone tried any of these 3rd party guns? Are they complete crap? Chances are based on the price they are, but I dunno, maybe not? |

I've really found it hard to aim just using the wand. Is this me, the calibration, or is the move not really compatible with shooters outside of the on-rails genre?

For instance I once calibrated with my arm resting on the top of my couch and pointing at the pseye. As if you had your arm around your girl. This allowed me to just rest my arm casually without having my arm out all the time which is awkward and tiring. Depends on the game of course. Outside of games where you have to swing like champions, you just flick your wrist and press buttons from a comfortable position. |

The move can work fine with first person shooters, in fact, it can work really well, but the thing is, you really need to calibrate it well and do not wave your arms around to aim, that would cause drifting, just let the device as still as possible, let your arm rest on your legs, turn the sensitivity up, and move the cursor with small wrist movements.

After having calibrated, you can play from whatever position you like. Doesn't need to be the one you calibrated from. Your position during calibration only matters in VR games like Datura, The Fight, Tumble etc. As for the OP question, my personal suggestion would be to get the Sharp Shooter for light gun games and use the vanilla Move for everything else (and learn to aim with your wrist, rather than the whole arm). |

I prefer the official sony gunshell, the red/white one.
Having two definitely made dualwielding more fun in various light gun games. IMO, Move alone is worth it for all the light gun games PSN has, which are the Namco light gun games, the House of Dead games, and now those RE Chronicles ports. |

the official red/white laserpistol from sony, most cheap 3rd party ones are really painful to use.
but another valid option is the Precision Shot 3, for more complex games that require a nunchuk as well, its also quite abit smaller than the Sony Assault Rifle :D |

I don't like the way you hold the naked move for lightgun games. Your hand is just at the wrong angle. You need to be holding a pistol grip ideally. I have the raygun shell and its fine.

I wish I saw this post before I bought a hand gun shell off of ebay. I saw that exact gun for $5 including shipping, but thought it looked cheap :( |
