GameStop says Wii U promotion period begins August 13th, preorders likely to start that day too

Images of a GameStop Wii U advertisement have been circulating the internet today, and we now have confirmation of the “official” plans for the promotion. Since I have good relations with GameStop management, I can confirm that these are official Nintendo-made advertisements that are intended to go on display in GameStop stores on August 13th (though some stores may obviously have put theirs up early).

I can also confirm that there is currently no SKU in the GameStop system for a Wii U pre-order, but I’m told it is likely that pre-orders will begin the same day or shortly after. With in-store advertising and official pre-orders just around the corner, it seems as though we’ve gotten our first sign that Nintendo will soon release the big news we’ve all been waiting for: Wii U’s price, release date, and other official launch details.

Not going to preorder. I doubt it will be like the Wii and be sold out for months, and if they are I can wait. Would be nice if the price was fair, but not expecting it to be.

Yeah.

Mario is the only game I'm even remotely interested in, so I'm going to ride out the initial rush and see what else is released this year.

Not gonna bother preordering at all. I only plan on buying the Wii U when P-100 is released. It probably won't be as popular as the Wii anyways.

P-100 should be a launch title so...

Anyway this is very good news, the Wii pre orders started in the middle of September 2006 and the Wii U pre orders starting this month can help for an October release date.

I doubt we will get Nintendo Direct on August 13 because Nintendo never has it on the 13th we should get Nintendo Direct on August 21-22.

P-100 kinda hurt my eyes when i played it. bad IQ and finicky framerate... hope those are addressed at launch, was pretty fun.

Will probably wait for more info on smash and info on the next 3d mario before buying.

I don't suppose Black Friday will have any impact on the price for the console or bundles for WiiU (making the presumption that the console releases at least a month or so before BF)? I'm guessing there might be some sales on WiiU games and accessories but that might be it as far as that goes. I've never checked out past BF deals during the same year as a console release so I'm not sure what typically happens. *shrug*

Pretty sure it was "launch window" meaning within the first few months of the launch. That, and it doesn't actually have an official name yet, so I'm not sure it'll make it for launch day.
