XCOM: Enemy Unknown multiplayer confirmed, detailed
#1
Multiplayer has been officially confirmed, and I like what I see. Maybe it's time for a new thread (I can't make one yet)

Like I said in another thread, turn-based tactical strategy games can translate VERY well into multiplayer.
If the core concept of the new XCOM is solid and they translate the tactical part over into multiplayer, then I don't see any issue at all. Especially when they said it was something they've worked on since the concept phase, rather than being coerced by the publisher to add it in. |

Hmm, nice to finally have how multiplayer is played explained. So a Versus mode essentially with custom made squads prior to matches based on points pools.
A pretty nifty idea.
-You can mix your squad up to be both humans and aliens. -You decide squad by purchasing units with points before hand (better units = cost more points), so one should plan accordingly. All units can be purchased. -115 second turns -You can change up the squad over the course of the match (If I read that correctly)

Ooh, I get to play as a Chryssalid in multiplayer? *evil laugh*
I'd field a full team of 'lids if they didn't sorely need anti-air help. I'm still optimistic, it does sound like the kind of multplayer that could work in X-Com. I thought it would be limited to humans against humans, really, but getting to play the aliens as well is neat.

My buddy, and I are going to be all over this. I remember "back in the day", when he showed me the original Xcom, and I had zero interest in this. Now, I'm excited for this more than any other game this holiday season. |

Between X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Dishonored, MGS Rising and Anarchy Reigns, I feel like we are seeing a return to AMAZING and original games.
It somehow relaxes me. And I will be able to go through one more year with barely touching too many AAA+ names. (If we do not count Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, Guild Wars 2 and Dishonored as AAA games. Anyway.... :P) |

...but I'm buying it anyway to support the move to make a new XCom in the mold of the classic (as opposed to the "me too!" shooter XCom game). I don't want to be part of the problem. :) |

It doesn't sound like a rushed multiplayer tackled in "just because". |

Kinda sad, reading the article and they acknowledge the issue. I don't believe any dev that says they are the ones that wanted to add multiplayer to a game that didn't have it originally, that is either publisher mandate, or top brass in the studio. And no matter what they say, it takes away valuable resources and time, from the most important part of the game, the SP. "But yeah, it was never explicit with us. It didn't pull anything away from the single-player." Complete garbage. Unless there is some miracle, we pretty much know this game is bombing on the consoles, so why waste the resources on shitty mp.

So it's just humans vs aliens?
:/ Seems like such a wasted opportunity. |

At first I was all "oh wtf devs spending valuable time on MP bs", then after actually reading the article...I'm ok with it. It actually sounds well thought out and I can see myself dumping a ton of time into it.
Also, the Kotaku preview sounded amazing as well. Looks like Dogma might have a GOTY contender for me. |
