"A Streetcar Named Marge" is the best Simpson's episode ever #1

“My mother the actress! I feel like Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill.” - Lisa

It has everything:

A story about Marge and Homer that intersects with the themes of "A Streetcar Named Desire"

A sub-plot about Maggie escaping from Ayn Rand Pre-school (with additional Great Escape references)

Two Alfred Hitchcock references - http://youtu.be/AeUVPAyntCY

Singing

Jon Lovitz in 2 roles

Ned Flanders as Stanley

What say you GAF? Where does this episode fit in the pantheon of great Simpson's episodes? Do you have a "Top 10" list?

Is that the one where Maggie says "Daddy" at the end? The only time I've shed a tear on Simpsons.

I created a top five for a friend who'd never seen much of the show.

1. Cape Feare
2. Homer at the Bat
3. Who Shot Mr. Burns Part One
4. Last Exit From Springfield
5. You Only Move Twice

I've watched most episodes in the series multiple times and I feel pretty good about this list.

Lemon of Troy is also an excellent contender.

Last Exit To Springfield. This has been measured by science.

A Streetcar Named Marge is really great though. It also has a top five quote with Willy singing "DOOONTOOON".

I only watched The Simpsons starting at Season 14. The older episodes really weren't that good.

Just kidding, I've never watched The Simpsons.

One of my personal favourites (if not #1 on my list) is Homer the Vigilante.

Homer: (smug) So it seems the cat, has been caught by the very person who was trying to catch him.
Skinner: How ironic.

Then the stats with Kent, and the ending "we'll dig our way out!" "no no, dig up, stupid!". Episode was full of classic moments.

You could make an argument for a huge amount of episodes from the early seasons. My opinion changes from time to time on this, but right now my favourite is You Only Move Twice. Hank Scorpio is the best one-off character by far. But I could watch Cape Feare, Homer the Vigilante, or something else and then that would be my favourite. Too many classic episodes to choose from.

Which is the episode where Homer tries to build a dog house, but fails, so Marge just buys one and says "There's a surprise for you in there too." Maggie pops out prompting Homer to say "Maggie, cute."?

Cracks me up just thinking about it.

My favorite quote from this show, and one I still say from time to time even though it makes no sense out-of-context. The delivery is hilarious.

Or the one with Hank Scorpio. "You Only Move Twice."

I am not an easy man to work for. While directing "Hats off to Channukah," I reduced more than one cast member to tears. Did I expect too much from 4th graders? The review [holds up a school newspaper] "Play enjoyed by all'' speaks for itself.

Homer's Enemy is the best episode!

Grimes: I have had to work hard everyday of my life and what do I have to show for it? This briefcase and this haircut! And what do you have to show for you lifetime of sloth and ignorance?

Homer: What?

Grimes: Everything! A dream house, two cars, a beautiful wife, a son who owns a factory, fancy clothes, and (sniffs) lobsters for dinner!

Ha ha!

I'll have to think about this topic more, but I love Summer of 4ft.2. I've recently thought about it being the best Simpsons episode of the series. Watched it like 3 times in the last few months.

Lisa's Substitute's up there too. Lisa episodes are sometimes unbearable, but in the better episodes she's the most relatable character, and makes the family contrast and stand out even more. Also love Flaming Moes, Homer the Heretic, Lisa on Ice, The Way We Was, And Maggie Makes Three, and Treehouse of Horror V & VI. They're all so perfectly packed, without a wasted scene.

Lisa vs/with Homer episodes are the good ones and make up the best episodes of the series. The rest are a bit off.
