LTTP: Burnout Revenge or "My, this game moves rather briskly!"

And the track designs are awesome, blasting through a shopping mall, big jump onto a coastal road, up to a small village smashing through tables and chairs, marvellous stuff! It may have even better tracks than Takedown. And full fat crash mode, yay! Seriously, why did I wait for so long? This game is flippin' fabulously fabulous!

Was traffic checking in Takedown or am I living in a fantasy world? I thought it was a great addition - nothing quite like the feeling of cars cannoning off your bonnet and into the traffic ahead.

I just remember An Honest Mistake being the most often randomly picked song throughout the game.

Burnout 2 was easily the best Burnout game, since it had the perfect balance between racing and avoiding other cars (ie, trying not to crash). After that, it became more about holding the acceleration down and forcing your way through. I felt it was a breath of fresh air when you finally had an arcade racing game where physical contact was properly penalised. When driving on the wrong side of the road actually felt dangerous.
But that said, Burnout 3 and Revenge were certainly good in their own rights. Shame about the obsession over making every damn game in every series into open world. |

I just wish it did the SSX thing with customs where they bend the pitch up and drop the bass in the air, only to come smashing back in when you land, maybe make the music louder while boosting... *drools*

Therefore the best entry was Point of Impact.
The sheer adrenaline rush when trying to get a few milliseconds off my best time on Big Surf Shore, one of the best gaming experiences ever.

if you could get rid of the ridiculously long videos every time you unlock a car/rank up/unlock a weapon upgrade then maybe... but at the moment it just takes soooo looooong to do anything in that game.
Which IMO is one of the worst possible things you can have in a racing game where the whole point is to go super fast. |

Burnout 3 was the perfect Burnout game except for the absolutely awful pop rock music soundtrack and that DJ. I actually turned all the music off because it was soul crushing.
Otherwise that game is completely perfect and IMO the HD burnouts were a step down in gameplay. |

Ah, cheers geez, I'll check them out. I'll just rock them on my Go, it's what I take to work anyway. *picks up Go and continues FFIX* My job rocks!

is it cheap now, and is it the best of the 'traditional' burnouts? I love paradise, but mainly just for fucking about and doing jumps and finding billboards etc. Races are horrible. OP makes me want a proper 'racing at 200mph not blinking eyes drying out' burnout.

This man is correct. Sunk at least 200 hours into Legends while "working" at a pizza place. So damn good, can't wait for another Burnout with crash mode again.

I don't think I have ever hated a game as much as Burnout Revenge solely based on one thing - the soundtrack. Sure, I guess you could mute it, or even play your own tunes, but it doesn't matter. That damn soundtrack just makes me furious out of control.
Can't even explain why, just something with it that pisses me off. |

Yeh once you get to the last stages the game goes into hyper-speed, but it's never a ridiculous twitch-fest like F-Zero. One mistake and you may as well restart though, it's old-school like that. I have no idea how cheap the 360 version of Revenge is to be honest, I imagine you can get it in CEX for a fiver.

I haven't tried it myself, but I remember another gaffer confirming it in some other topic about EA server takedowns a couple of months ago. Something about Alex Ward getting involve to get them stealthily put back online.
