They just couldn't make open world work with Burnout, no matter how many navigational clues were thrown at us. Yeh it was cool to find your own shortcuts, but taking a wrong turn and ending up on the traintrack going the opposite direction wasn't a lot of fun.
At least Most Wanted has fixed that with checkpoints. |

I don't rate Revenge very highly in my book. In fact, not only would I say it's the most disappointing Burnout game between Takedown and Paradise (never fully played the first two), it's the only game Criterion has ever made that's let me down.
That said, it's high time we got a new Burnout. Whether it's set from the Takedown or Paradise model, I don't know, but I'd love to see that happen. |

According to the Wikipedia BC compatibility list, it looks closer to 14:9 w/ VGA (not sure about HDMI) but it seems like it's definitely better than 4:3 :) |

I tried to pick small ones. I browse on m.gaf, so it's hard to tell. I'll quote them.
:/ Edit: quoted, just for you Bruiser!

NfS: Hot Pursuit has been the most boring arcade racer I've played this gen. The problem for me was that Criterion didn't inject enough of Burnout into it and the format was just uninspired and dull. It felt like I was playing a spread sheet.
Takedown was the last Burnout game I've played and it was something special. Couldn't get into Paradise or Revenge. Currently I'm playing Driver SF(which is awesome) until I get my hands on Most Wanted in October(which looks sublime). |

Fixed that for you.
Revenge is bad because traffic check took skill out the window and the crash mode is slooooooooooooooooooooooooow. That leaves? Nothing. I just wanted Burnout 4: Takedown 2, Criterion... :( Y U RUIN SERIES?! But Paradise is better than Revenge, so there is a slight silver lining to this downhill slide of the series. :( |

I would totally play the shit out of this game if criterion applied such a patch. That and the ability to disable the takedown camera.

As much as I agree that the older burnout games destroy paradise, the menu's in this game annoyed me for some reason. Maybe because of the older menu design which felt far more slow and sluggish than more recent games.
Game is really a blast, but Takedown is indeed a better game. Hopefully Criterion goes back to it's roots and ditches the open world at some point. |

Been saying that for years. The racing in BP is just terrible unless you try to memorize every single track and variation. Give me the barriers and let mo go balls to the wall fast!

Giant glowing GO-THERE-FOR-THE-LOVE-OF-GOD-YOU-NEED-TO-TURN-NOW! barriers weren't needed for me because after exploring the city on my own and trying out a dozen races or so I did have the paths known well enough and was glad I could take my own routes because they were faster or offered jumps. It wasn't memorising every single track or variation, but just learning a city the same way I would in real life or depending on a navi (flashing street sign on the top left/right or seeing the turn signal). I couldn't tell you street by street the exact path to get to the stadium in Paradise City, but I can easily get there if I'm on the controls without really thinking about it. I finished Paradise, I finished Revenge and honestly with or without barriers I never lost the sense of speed and constantly went near top speed or boosting all the way once I knew tracks on both unless I screwed up and crash. In fact being left to me I could keep drifts and boosts going far longer than I did in Burnout. Not to mention with Paradise if I did screw up, I could use another path or jump and get back into the race rather than having to restart or settle for second or third quite easily, though I still did restarts because I always wanted the best times/runs out of compulsion. Now I've said that, I'm not against them implementing such a feature and would be all for it if it helped get more people to play; I just don't understand how it would actually help be more enjoyable as to me it felt like the same racing experience in both titles if I just followed the given path. It all just seems a bit Mega Man 10 Easy Mode to me. So please, help me to understand and spot what I'm missing. |

Disagree. That's like saying that weapons ruined Wipeout. They just needed to provide an option to turn it off for the purists.
