The iphone youtube app is so pathetically shit that support has been killed. The Roku app was pulled, the 360 app is complete garbage, the Vita app is a joke and...I know nothing of the AppleTV app, is it good? There isn't a good set top youtube experience yet. Here's hoping this one is it. I doubt it.

have you connected your youtube account to your 360? Subs are the only thing I watch on youtube now and I do it damn near exclusively through the Xbox.

Yea, it is annoying that you cannot subscribe to a channel within the vita app itself, but I noticed that new videos from my subscriptions turn up under the recommended section, so it still isn't that bad. At least, I've only subscribed to the giantbomb and gametrailers channels, and new videos for both turn up on my vita.

Paging jeff_rigby! This is the next step towards a full GNOME desktop! Just kidding jeff, I'm a fan really.

Playstation Console running Gnome or any linux desktop option as a dedictated Game OS would be sooooooo awesome.

Hopefully sony continues linux support on consoles and figured out what mistakes they made with otherOS.

Why? I don't like it particularly, and I don't really use the PS3 to look at the net because a gamepad is a horrid device to use for the net, but YTXL actually seems much better than most sites I've tried on there. It's like those phones for old people with huge buttons.

I keep a usb keyboard handy for my consoles, always have since playing Everquest Online Adventures and Final Fantasy XI on the PS2. I also have a bluetooth keyboard paired with my PS3 in case of an emergency that is actually mainly used for my iPad when its on a stand.

I only use the iphone app for when a site directs me to a youtube link or am desperate to show someone a video.

The appleTV app is actually good. Sadly the appletv remote has no keys but I can use my iphone to control my appletv for anything requiring lots of text like account sign up (which is really only one time).

Android app is fantastic. Pretty much the only one. Though the Vita one runs really well. Just wish it had more features.

Hulu Desktop and Amazon Prime worked out well and were before the 360 versions. I also found Netflix to be better on PS3, until netflix started screwing around messed them all up except for the AppleTV version, which is still not as good as it used to be.

2. The iOS app is garbage and can only handle a handful of subscriptions and cuts off for me at like letter "g."

Picture quality is worse and it is routinely behind live action by 90-120 seconds. It has more features for sure.

Some of them do pop up, most of them don't. I really would rather Sony work towards a big firmware release every year and pack it full of good stuff. Odd little things throughout the year like this are fine, but they should be pumping these things out much faster.

I think its they way they have their teams set up. different teams working on different things instead of one cohesive group working on everything and exchanging ideas and workflow.

It kills me that one first party dev has features and tools that another first party dev does not.

The Youtube app on Android now does this and makes that remote app useless. The problem I always have with this stuff is it only helps if you have the app open and running. It's the same with Google TV or a PC with Youtube Leanback open. I understand they don't want these apps to just sit running in the background at all times, but I wish Google would just have some sort of system level database (like the sharing and default app chooser in Android) that says "hey i'm an app that can be controlled from another device! When a signal is sent launch me!" This is a underlying issue with this whole convergence of devices in the living room. We don't have a standard protocol that everyone recognizes yet. It's going to be the job of these set top boxes to implement it too, because lord knows TV's aren't going to be the solution.

EDIT: Oh and fuck that Nexus Q thing. Those same exact features are what this Youtube remote stuff does. They added that stuff to the Youtube app because the Nexus Q was coming out. It just so happens that it works with the already in place leanback remote pairing. Take that Nexus Q software work and put it into standard Android and open that API for any app dev to use you bastards! You already have Google TV why...

That's pretty much exactly how YouTube Leanback coupled with the Android YouTube app works. Once you've paired them (a very simple process) you can browse videos on your phone and play them on your TV/monitor, and switch the playback between them with a single touch. No reason they couldn't do the same with the PS3 app taking the place of Leanback. I'm guessing the iOS app doesn't have this functionality though, so they'd obviously have to release a new version there (but that's supposed to be coming anyway, isn't it?).

It's true for navigation and search, but now I choose to watch Youtube on TV exclusively because of it's superior video quality (as well as enjoying it on a TV).
