Sleeping Dogs PC Performance Thread
#1
I figured it made sense for us to have a separate thread for the PC version since we have optimization options and it seems as if the Extreme AA brings even the best PC's to its knees.
Hope fully there are work arounds for us to get the best quality so lets discuss here! 8.15.12 - FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE TRY DOWNLOADING THE NEWEST NVIDIA DRIVER 305.53 8.15.12 - TO DOWNLOAD HIGH RES PACK YOU MUST GO TO YOUR STEAM LIBRARY AND GO TO SLEEPING DOGS, ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE YOU WILL SEE "DLC" CLICK ON THAT AND IT WILL BRING YOU TO THE PAGE WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE FREE HI RES PACK. ITS ABOUT 4 GB. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=366802 I received about a 5 FPS increase after updating.

Extreme SSAO seems busted to me, I turned it off in my review build. It added weird glowing effects to all the characters and odd lines across the screen.
With SSAO on the notch below Extreme and without supersampling, my game runs wonderfully. Looks good, too, for an open-world game. It shows its console roots in the character models but otherwise it's nice. |

Performance I posted from the other thread:
Here are my benchmarks with high AA (not extreme) and no AA: Computer Specs: Q6600 @ 3.2GHZ GTX 470 (Beta Drivers) OCed 4GB DDR2 4-4-4-12 It's well optimized for older computers, which I'm really happy. Although when driving it slows down to the 20's, just because your computer is trying to draw the city at a faster rate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First two are V-Sync On and Off - NO AA: ![]() ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second batch is V-Sync On and Off - High AA (not Extreme): ![]()

Posted in the OT:
Anyone getting extremely low performance on the PC while driving? My PC: Phenom X4 955 3.2 GHZ (OC'd to 3.8) Sapphire HD 6950 OC Edition (OC'd to 840/1325 mhz) 8GB RAM D3DOverrider for V-sync/Triple Buffering My benchmarks are in the mid fifties, but while on a motorcycle my framerate is in the mid 20's. 0_o I even tried setting it the graphics to low and I was still getting 40's to 50's in framerate. I was getting around 60fps all up until the game opened up and you were able to drive your first vehicle. I verified the cache and that seemed to help a little bit with the framerate (maybe 10 extra fps at its lowest now), but there's still tons of micro stuttering (stuttering?) when I'm driving...it's extremely distracting. Here are my benchmarks: ![]() Anyone having similar problems?

In the custom graphics menu. Look at the bottom of the screen for what button to press.
Anyway, completely maxed out was an average of 45fps, but turning down AA from Extreme to High gave me this:

As posted in the other thread: benchmark and FRAPS show constant 60 but I still get some pretty random stuttering, wich is not affected by the graphical settings at all (same thing with the lowest possible configuration)
downloading the driver in OP to see if it makes a difference |

We need better width of the bus on cards and maybe a tad more RAM than the standard 2GB. 3GB seems like a nice medium.
EDIT: Chickdigger did you wait for the GMG key or buy it on Steam? |

I've grown past flipping out due to getting a game half a day later. :P Seriously some of those posts were disgusting. And people say gaf is better than gamefaqs. |

EDIT: The driver in the OP didn't help my stuttering (I know it wasn't intended to, but just to keep track of "things that have been tried").

If you're driving the FPS takes a huge dive for everyone, based on other posts. |

![]() This is the result of my benchmark test, but when I'm actually playing the game, I get 30-45 FPS, with 15-25 when I'm driving downtown. |

I feel like there's something wrong with my setup and that I'm not getting the performance I would expect. I have a:
i5-2320 3ghz quad core Radeon 7870 8 GB RAM and if set the benchmark to the low graphic detail setting I'm getting: Avg: 59 fps Max: 72 fps Min: 43 fps That seems low to me given how every other game works well on highest detail. If I switch it to the highest setting on everything except AA being set to normal, I get: Avg: 58 fps Max: 69 fps Min: 42 fps Both of these are at 1920x1080. Something seems really wrong there. Even worse, I tried running it at work, and while I don't have the numbers with me, there I have an i7 but a weaker graphics card (I think Radeon 6850) and I get better performance. The CPU shouldn't be that big of a factor right? Anyone have any suggestions? |

Can't see a mention of your rig. If you're running Crossfire then it will only utilize 1 card if it's not in full screen mode... If that's the case I'm guessing that's what's causing the stuttering. Disregard if you're not using sli/crossfire.

im gonna go ahead and say it's a bug. MvmntInGrn saying it fixed it for him as well kinda confirms it. It's not stuttering as in "too much shit happening on screen" stuttering. It feels more like the game randomly skipping frames while still mantaining a steady 60fps framerate. Playing at the same res in windowed mode completely fixes this, so yeah, must be a bug of sorts. Just hope it gets adressed in some way since I havent seen it mentioned.. |

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one seeing a sharp decrease in performance while driving. Gives me hope that they can improve the performance via patch/driver updates.
I'm starting to think that the stuttering I'm seeing while driving (I only see the stuttering while driving) is just poorly implemented camera shake when you start going fast. I tried windowed mode and I thought I saw an improvement, but still noticed some...now I think I've been staring at it too long. :P

Yeah there is a stuttering problem, and it gets pretty bad when driving. Still a cool game, I hope there is a fix for this, and I agree it isn't performance related. Walking around near the neon lights when it's raining looks like some next gen shit to me. 2600k@4.2/580.

they seemed a little worse to me too, coming from the previous whql drivers and then the beta drivers on nvidia's site...not a big difference though

I'm playing on a i7 920 @ 3.64Ghz w/ a GTX 670 and it's running pretty well..
Playing with everything on "High" or "Extreme" except anti-aliasing, which is set to "Normal" and V-Sync is off. According to the benchmark I'm getting an average of 71 fps at 2560x1440, max of 130 and a low of 34. Game looks great, too. |
