Hong Kong fishermen land on Senkaku island
#1

A fishing boat filled with Hong Kong activists determined to proclaim China’s sovereignty over the contested Senkaku Islands claimed success after landing on the islands’ shores on Wednesday afternoon. By 4:30 p.m., members of the crew had slipped into the waters abutting the islands and begun singing choruses of China’s national anthem as they waded toward the shore. “We have achieved our goal successfully in claiming our sovereign rights to the world. The action exceeds our expectations and we’ve accomplished our objective faster than expected,” said Chan Yu-nam, vice-chairman of the Action Committee for Defending the Diaoyu Islands, as they are referred to in China. Activists said they were successful in bringing five Chinese national flags to the islands, which are located in the East China Sea and controlled by Japan. In addition to China and Japan, Taiwan also claims sovereignty over the islands. Though a number of Chinese activists have previously launched similar excursions to try to reach the islands and proclaim Chinese sovereignty, no Hong Kong activists have been successful in actually reaching the islands since 1996, as Japanese authorities have repeatedly turned such ships back. On Wednesday, as the activists’ boat neared the islands, it was trailed by around 10 Japanese vessels, as well as a helicopter. Japanese authorities broadcasted warnings in both Mandarin and Japanese to the boat, which continued to press forward, even after Japanese authorities began firing water cannons and attempted to board the vessel. |

Chinese didn't care until they found potential oil. Greedy. |

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

I guess they could do that where the HK Fishermen landed, seeing as there seems to be a Japanese naval presence of some sort there on the regular. I doubt it would ever happen with Dokdo. Because, you don't poke crazy with a stick. |

Dokdo/Takeshima, I'd imagine the face up would be lots of posturing, faces, salty tears and then nothing. |

Korea can have takeshima. That just seems a boring border dispute.
Senkaku is all about what's underneath it. China didn't care til they found potential in the 70s There are some island disputes with the Russians too, so you could pull them into the movie some how too |

You're on to something here. We're settling Takeshima/Dokdo in this tournament also? Hell, all land disputes should be settled this way from now on, with live broadcast.

Named in honor of Senkaku Incident in 2013. Now an annual event with China, India, Pakistan participating in Senkaku Kombat II: Kashmir, Japan and South Korea in Senkaku Kombat III: The Rocks. Now Thailand and Cambodia sent their best to duke it out at Senkaku Kombat IV: Temple of Doom.

Japan has valid, though obviously contestable, claims in all three disputes. I think they are being too greedy however. Nations lose territories in wars, and not just their most recent imperial possessions, like Germany with Silesia and Koenigsberg. Prevailing legalistically is not a silver bullet here.
If I were in charge, my solution would be to concede Dokdo, resurrect the agreement for Japan to keep the two southernmost of the Kurils (which is something that should have been accepted when Russia first made the offer), and maintain the Senkakus, mostly because I don't think China would be content either way. |

Yeah. Although I think they should do it in all those Korean/Japanese common sports. Like Judo/Yudo and Kendo/Gumdo.

With Korea it might work, old Japanese nationalists will get air of superiority out of it. No way with Russia and China.
