New Super Mario Bros. 2 is $69.95AU on the Australian eShop #1

$69.95 is the RRP for the game at retail, most stores have it under $60 though.

$69.95AU is also;

£46.65 GBP
$73.37 USD
¥5,812 YEN

I normally don't like to use direct conversions, but this is a DIGITAL product.

That's my picture above, Aussies if you want it cheaper like for $54 at Big or $55 at Target. I've done a bargain rundown too.

You might be able to change your eShop account the UK and change it for a better rate.

$69.95 is the RRP, I'll add it to the OP. Stores have it for mostly under $60 though.

Yup, it's pretty stupid. It's not the first time a game has been priced at full RRP on a digital store though and it won't be the last.

With a new release, they're likely contractually obligated not to sell under the MSRP.

Why would anyone think they will sell it for less? Almost everyone else doesn't and Nintendo went the extra mile to please retailers as well as everyone else involved with their solution so, of course that's how it would be. You can still take advantage of in-store offers and buy a dd card, or the cartridge, cheaper where available. All that matters is if they will have the occasional sales and other promotions or not, RRP being the base pricing for dd as well was expected. Direct exchange rate conversions are silly too. At least with Nintendo you (will?) have the option of utilizing the benefits of retail (prices) and the preference (if you have it) of dd.

Importing is fine, UK games get cheap really fast and there are plenty of sites setup to take advantage of our shitty prices in regards to console games.

GreenManGaming and Steam gifting covers all the PC stuff too.

Because everytime any video game company gets asked about local pricing here they all trot out the 'cost of doing business' line.

Microsoft, Nintendo and more so Sony all trot that line here, no other reason. I doubt Nintendo Australia are actually doing ANYTHING for this digitally.

I live in the Caribbean.

That's still less than what I've had to pay to get 3DS games to my home. It sucks, but when you love gaming, what can you do?

I'll be downloading from the eShop for sure.

Note: I'm not saying this is acceptable btw.

I know this is bad, but Ive seen digital games on demand on both XBL/PSN for $10 more than the RRP. Price parity with retail is the best example in this country.

Games are more expensive (way more expensive) in Australia, companies blame 'price of doing business in Australia', this is a digital product from a server in Europe or Japan. Where's the Aussie cost?

Well it's not like we don't know the real reason why pricing of digital content is so bad in Australia. They don't want to annoy retailers.

And it works, because I actually bought Skyrim at HN rather than through Steam because the boxed copy was cheaper.

Actually I have been noticing lately games becoming cheaper at launch. Darksiders 2 and and sleeping dogs are both 69 at JB Hifi which is pretty good. Games have never been that cheap at launch before ever but itll likely go up in price in a week or 2's time.
