Maybe there are just lots of former fans who are just...tired of it. I know I am. 10 felt a little too cinematic and relationship driven, 12 looked pretty good but couldn't keep me involved. Didn't care about 13, and played the demo of 13-2 and didn't dig it.
They're just not my style anymore, which isn't to say that they're bad games. They've changed and evolved over the years, and so have I. It's not about regaining trust in a brand, it's about putting out a product that appeals to people. And don't start me on FFXI. My nuts are still aching from the punishment fest/terrible economy that existed in Vana Diel. |

Wow, that sucks. From the new world definitely isn't on the same level as SH2 (a really high bar), but it still had unique areas, tons of quirky humor, and great gameplay. It just kinda felt like a spinoff they didn't have time to really pack with content and polish though. It was probably a sign of how the developer was falling apart, before the team basically dissolved and a bunch of them joined Feel Plus.

I like Yoshida a lot. I just hope the identity of his XIV isn't lost by adding in so many fanservice bits like the Gold Saucer, Crystal Tower, magitek armor, limit breaks, etc.
I'd like to see other directors and producers in the company be as open with fan dialogue as he is; lord knows it would go a long way in helping regain trust - especially with those projects they've neglected to mention anything about in over a year. |

Just because enemies continue to attack you when you set the controller down doesn't mean that the battle system is all that active. In the active time battle Final Fantasy games you just spam x/circle during every non-boss fight, healing your characters occasionally. The fights themselves are actually slower than a lot of strictly turn-based fighting systems like those in the DQ and Suikoden series, as you have to sit around waiting for character meters to fill.
Final Fantasy XII automates the process in regular fights via the gambits. However, I actually found that FFXII required more strategy than most of the Final Fantasy titles, especially during boss fights. You can beat the PS1 Final Fantasy games by just spamming your most powerful attack and spells. The status spells (buffs and debuffs) were largely unnecessary or useless. Bosses were immune to them 90% of the time anyhow. In Final Fantasy XII you actually had to use those status spells in almost every boss fight unless you were grossly over-leveled. Even in some of the stronger regular fights, you had to buff and debuff. |

But you have to think that if they release a shitty product with XIV in the title nothing stops them from doing the same with an offline XV. They have to save this game so people can trust in their products, even if they don't care about this one in particular.

EDIT: note: don't take the above as a recommendation to try the game out. |

- Final Fantasy XIII gets 3 sequels made
- FFVII gets PC ported to Squaresteam with minimal effort instead of remaked / sequelized / whatever - Versus is nowhere to be seen and on a varpoware status - FF Online games gets numbered like main games - Agni's Philosophy cockteaser trailer - Only one main FF during this generation - Crisis core becomes a Japan - Only mobile phone game - Parasite Eve dequel becomes a Japanese - only mobile phone game, too Gee, I wonder how they have failed the customer's trust. Perhaps it has something to do with their godawful product planning and brand management decisions, but then again, this is a crazy personal theory of mine.

Both XIII and XIV have damaged the brand. XIII-2 sales prove that gamers did not react to XIII well. Won't be surprise if Versus drops XIII in it's title.

Motomu Toriyama #1 Fan (Today, 11:25 AM) Toriyama is a hack and Yoshida should be throwing him under the bus for the good of Square-Enix. |

Everything about that series was unique. Especially the music. |

The sad thing is that this is probably the furthest thing from their plans right now. I mean, maybe an announcement of progress, but that's about it.
What the fuck is that anyway? Who wants to hear about progress? Do you know what that information is- useless. Absolutely useless, because it can mean anything, nothing, or just that Square wants to keep on fucking with their fans. All they're doing is telling us empty words that might as well be Stevie Wonder doing a duet with Taylor Swift (which would be horrible). But yes. There will be no new trailer. Unless that is the progress. Then yes, there will be a new trailer. But no game. |

XI is more deserving of the FF name than a lot of people think. I think to my time playing WHM in XI, and my time healing in any other FF game, and they honestly just don't even compare. And you can say that about every one of the jobs.

The core mantra holding the series together is reinvention, and doing something different. Massive departure is what they try to go for every time except FFIX, which was purposely retro.

They really should have gone the GW2 route with Realm Reborn. At this point, I just can't justify a monthly fee for an MMO. I really want to play Realm Reborn, but with GW2 offering MMo content with no fee, I start to question what exactly I'm paying for monthly.

They try to be something new and different while still being offline RPGs. As I said, an MMO is a massive departure. |

SE threw FF into the MMO world relatively early in that genre's life. In practice, they experimented with throwing the franchise online as soon as it was feasible. |

I didn't realize that Yoshida's really good at PR. They should have him in charge of interviews and stuff in general after FFXIV 2.0's stable.
duckroll keeping it real in this thread by acknowledging that Shadow Hearts is dead. :|
