For the life of me I will never understand why they don't press more more copies of MPT without the tin casing and collector's extras. There is clearly a demand for the compilation. Just give us a plain old white case, as long as we get the disc!

Waiting for Wii U HD Edition I hope! That's what I'm holding out for, anyways.

I had a Genesis during that era and didn't get to play SMW until much later, and I just didn't feel the magic. I don't have the nostalgia for it that others do. I didn't put the time in to learn the cape well, and the tail in 3 had been so much easier to get used to. The goombas are uglier than the previous ones. I still really dislike ghost houses when they seem designed to waste your time until you can find the hidden exit, and in my opinion its houses are worse than those in more recent games (as you'd expect them to be, being the first occurrence of them). Some levels felt like an inferior rom hack, and the final reward of the change to the autumn enemies weirded me out and felt phoned-in. But these are old opinions and I might even like it more if I played it again. But I'm not going to. Honestly I should've merely said that 3 is better than World, and I can't really compare World to anything else because it's just a weird Mario game that sits in its own separate area for me. This is similar to how I played Wind Waker before OoT. I tried to play Ocarina like 4 times and could never get more than 2 dungeons into it before I had to stop. Again, I had no nostalgia for it and had a hard time stomaching the low FPS and poor-by-comparison mechanics. 3DS version finally was bearable enough that I got through it. |

Where NSMB and NSMBW felt like upgrades of Super Mario Bros 1, I honestly feel in the few hours I've spent with NSMB2 that it feels more like an extension of the Super Mario Bros 3 feel.
It's all very similar to the other 2 "new" games, but there's definitely been some progress and ideas that have been allowed to grow a bit. Maybe not quite as radical as SMB3, but definitely not as safe as SMB1. |

Also aren't World's goombas classified as their own sub-species? Nintendo knew how much everyone would hate them beforehand so they had to cover their tracks |

Shouldn't the question be where is Super Mario World 3: Yoshi's Island ? Nintendo, don't you dare dip this game in the art style of New SMB. I swear to God, the fans will give you a paper cut on every one of your fat fingers.

Probably because they realized the game was not that hot and wanted to secure some sales. |

I really wonder if we're going to be able to ever just save the Princess again. No co-op bullshit, no coin rushing, no filler. Just well-constructed levels, a world-map, and Yoshi. Sure, Galaxy 2 had all this, but somehow I still felt like a 2D game would solve any gripes I have with the series.

I'd have to agree that NSMBU is pretty similar. It's actually what made me happy at E3 while playing it. But, I'm not sure how far it'll go to pull those aspects from it in SMW and SMW2 were awesome. They aren't number one on my Mario list, but they're tied for second respectively.
I wish they'd drop the title though. NSMB is long, and yeah can make it shorter by using it as an acronym, but it's to the point it's getting confusing. Sure, NSMBU is only what, 4th in the series? But it's not even in a format that stays consistent, so it's confusing. Numbered series on the DS/3DS and on Wii uses Wii in title. I guess as not to add to confusion the Wii U just has the U tacked on. Spoke with a friend yesterday who called it everything under the sun but I think what it's actual name was. He wasn't doing it to be funny either, but I just think their way of naming each game has been pretty poor. I wish they'd dump the name and just come up with something else. |

The next 2d mario should have him jumping dimension to dimension chasing Bowser. Each dimension would have its own Nintendo theme, punchout, ice climbers, earth bound, metroid ect.. The end bosses would be characters from those games and you could unlock a new themed power up after beating them witch will appear in the regular question blocks going forward.

I've had the idea for Mario Dimensions type game since Wii U was announced. What if the next Mario combined 3D and 2d Mario literally? Some kind of crazy shit happens which forces Mario to be split into his 2d and 3D versions. While the 3D version plays out on the tv you can switch to the 2d version on the gamepad controller screen. Both forms help each other progress in the same kind of level. Does this sound interesting to anyone else?

Even though I think SMW is a dull rehash of SMB3.. no. Just no. Super Mario Land is way, way worse than SMW.

Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Land 3 are the Mario games I feel are more experiments, spin-offs, side chances, and reminiscing /after thoughts of Miyamoto. Kind of like a Final Fantasy X-2 or Metal Gear Rising.
Everything from the physics to the idea/story/plot that goes on feels and/or is not what I would expect from a Mario game. I'm still bitter about Super Mario Bros. 2. It feels like it was a mistake.

Absolutely. I'd love to see that concept see some evolution today. Of course, Donkey Kong '94 and Mario vs. Donkey Kong used a lot of gameplay elements from it, so there was that, but I want to see a real follow-up to it.

Outside of a connected world and being able to bring Yoshi into any stages what is really that different between SMW and NSMBW? If you want a Mario with a connected world make it more like Super Mario Land 2 where you can tackle the levels in an order of your choosing but you still have to go to every world to find some magic item before you can go to the final world. Super Mario World allows you to only play like 8 stages to beat the whole game if you know all the short cuts which is basically the same as using warp cannons to jump to world 8 in NSMB.
