Why is my ps3 beeping?
#1
I moved it to a different location yesterday and ever since then it's been beeping randomly every few minutes and it even turned itself off during a movie just now.
Am I screwed? PS: It's a launch day ps3 UPDATE: Actually it turns out the beeps were coming from my dads prehistoric cellphone which needs to be charged. Is freezing and magic reset still a sign of YLOD?

Do this now, I had my Batman Arkham Aslyum CE disc, eaten up by my launch 60GB PS3 which YLOD on me. And it did the beeping sound before then, unfortunately I did not back up my stuff in time and it died before I had a FAT32 portable hard drive space to spare.

What the fuck. You put it in a cabinet?
Sorry, but that's flat out idiotic. Edit - Also, the yellow light of death hit a little later for me. It started with hard resets, flashing red lights, and beeping, which eventually turned into hard resets, beeping, a quick yellow light flash, and then flashing red lights. If you can actually manage to boot into XMB, I'd make sure that your trophies are synced, saves are backed up, and if the whims of the gaming gods allow it, a full backup-for-transfer of your HDD is completed. It's only a matter of time now. |

Is it so difficult to disassemble the console to get the disc out?
Mine is about to go too, very loud fan noise, random crashes, very slow HDD read speed. I hope it gets enough time for me to finish what I'm playing now (Darksiders) and Resident Evil 6 once it's out. Save is locked to the console, there is no way to back it up if you don't have PS+ unfortunately... |

But the YLOD appears after you can no longer switch it on, well it appears before switching the entire system off.... |

It's a launch US 60GB PS3 fatty. You're playing with fire just by using it, 6 years in. I burned through two of 'em. At least the first had the decency to die on me 6 months post-launch; so Sony replaced it for free. |

We do not know if he cares for BC. I know you do but this thread is not about you.

If you want to replace it with a new slim, make sure to delete all personal info and restore to factory settings. You can sell a YLOD 60gb for a decent amount.
My 60gb kicked the bucket a few months ago and I just bought a new slim instead of repairing or getting a refurb. Couldn't be happier. It's great being able to play without worrying about your system dying when the fans kick into hyper mode. There's also that new cheaper slim that's coming soon.

But only those you pay Sony another $10 for, from a very meager digital library. Of course. But yeah, vote's to wait for a cheapie new model Slim as well. |

Maybe they can be transferred with system transfer. That should enable them on the new console, but both systems must be working to do this.

My 40GB has been doing this since I bought it ~4 years ago. If I leave it on a while, just idling, it'll beep every now and then. It's still working fine, but I haven't really put it to the test over the years since I game sporadically.

My system gets pretty hot after playing for just 20 minutes. It's been like that for at least a year and I'm always waiting for it to finally kick the bucket. Already have another slim to take its place but I also wish that we get some good cooling next generation. I don't care if it's loud, I just want to be sure that my system won't die. :(

I personally prefer to wait and see, if my Ps3 survives Resi6 I'll stop using it and buy a new one next year to do a system transfer. If not, goodbye Demon's Souls save... in the end it's the only locked one I'm sorry to leave behind. |

This happened to me just earlier while I was playing The Walking Dead. My PS3 died last year, got it repaired it at a third party place, and it YLoD on me just yesterday. After giving it some time to cool down, it managed to come back to life.
I managed to back up all my recent saves that hadn't been backed up yet and sync trophies. It's alive at the moment, but anymore use and I know it will die on me again. It sucks, cause I haven't been on my PS3 much lately. (mostly turned it on to download stuff or a bit of Netflix). Only game I was really playing was FFXII via BC and it was usually less than 2 hours of game time. |
