Bethsoft Fallout is too real-time action-y to be up Obsidian's alley, anyway, IMO. Wasteland's more deliberate and tactical nature suits their more dense narratives much better. Besides, I'd like to see Avellone's work with WL2 continue and include other Obsidian stars for WL3.

I'd like to see Boston try to be some kind of neo-Colonial America with extreme patriots trying to cling onto America as they knew it from the history books.

Sort of mix the Legion with the Enclave, but doing it in a way that's a lot different.

Hopefully Bethesda lets someone who knows even the slightest thing about the first two games make this, like Obsidian.
3 was such an abomination :/

Isn't the Skyrim engine just the Fallout engine with nicer looking menus?

It's been 200 years since the nuclear war, the world should be way more developed (like in Fallout 2), New Vegas was a step in the right direction to go back to that.
Hope they go further this time.

Cannot disagree more with the first statement. Please just use a new modern engine. Please!

I completely agree with your second statement.

I'm hoping they learned something from Obsidian. New Vegas was so much more interesting than anything they put out by Bethesda and it also had the benefit of being actually linked to the Fallout story/setting.

If it's on the current generation consoles and engine they use they won't be able to. They had to butcher the strip in New Vegas to get it to run on consoles and it was only recently unlocked for PC users.

I believe that Carmack has been quite adamant that iD Tech 5 is unsuitable for games with the scale of Elder Scrolls and Fallout. You'll get the "Creation Engine" again.

I'm guessing next gen. Oblivion was supposed to be a launch title for the previous gen, so Fallout 4 might try and succeed where it failed.

Next gen early 2014 probably, just like how Oblivion was originally a launch title for 360 but pushed back into 2006.

After the abysmal crap that was Skyrim on consoles (bugs, huge framerate issues and over 5 patches after November) they have to really step up their game if they want me to buy this one.

I do enjoy this news because I absolutely love the Fallout games.

I don't think that'll happen, Fallout is supposed to be about a world stuck in 1950s culture but with advanced tech. More specifically American 1950's culture.

on topic: Boston? I find that a bit too safe, but I'm really eager to see what bethesda can do with next-gen hardware ( if this is next-gen ), as they sure as hell could use more power *zzz ps3 gamebryo games* this could be something exceptional

Well, storyline wise, it would make sense. The Commonwealth, etc. I think it is pretty much certain to take place around this area, regardless of the rumor.

Can't wait either way.

Isn't the Commonwealth in Boston? It was mentioned in Fallout 3 a couple of times. I'm down. Bethesda's Fallout lacked a strong story, but had a great exploration vibe that NV was missing.

Same here. I hated having to take the trip to Rivet City. I seriously dreaded it every time. I spent 99% of that game out in the regular wasteland. Same thing with NV.

Chicago would be cool. A resurgence of gangsters and speakeasies in a post apocalyptic settings would be kind of neat. NYC has been done again and again.

Sounds like Bethesda's quality of writing. They just should outsource the writing to Obsidian.
