I'm wanting to buy the original Chrono Trigger for a friend and I'm awfully confused
#1
Price isn't much of a problem, however I just want to know I'm not being swindled.
So I've been prowling online and I've noticed that the SNES versions of Chrono Trigger are far more expensive than the Japanese Super Famicom versions. Is there any good reason for that? Was the SFC version some kind of reissue or something? What would you guys say is a fair price for the original game? It doesn't matter if it's in Japanese or English, because my friend has already finished it, knows Japanese, and anyway, this is more of a sentimental gift than anything else. Thanks. |

There are more copies of the Super Famicom game available. The US version is more rare and also more valued. A game is only worth what people are willing to pay for it and the crazies here are willing to pay out the ass for the game.

Don't pay more than 40-50 for the cart.
Complete with the box will get tricky, as CIB copies go north of the $120 range consistently. Personally, if you're buying it to play, I'd grab the SFC cart. |

You might get lucky and snatch one for $50 if someone puts it up at that price as a buy it now, but unlikely. FWIW, you're better off getting the DS version anyway, unless you REALLY want the SNES version for some reason. |

The load times on the PSN ver. are not really that bad.
For all of the "rare' expensive western games on ebay and the like, they never seem to be in short supply.

The Japanese DS version allows you to switch between Japanese and English on the fly. Great fun if your friend has not mastered Japanese.
I have the SNES and SFC versions, but the SFC version isn't nostalgic for me, as I didn't have it as a kid. Important thing about the DS version is anything added to the game was complete crap. It's the best version because you can easily ignore what was added, and the original game is there in all its glory. |

Mine have a fair bit of wear on them because I played the shit out of the games. Still have stuff like the spoilerriffic map for FFIII, too.

I have them all (the SoM poster was on my wall for a while as a teenager), but I bet when I'm in my 40's I would pay ridiculous money for them in mint condition.

But then, grading makes pricing ridiculous. Not a fan of it myself, since it defeats the purpose of actually playing the game. |

Also, it takes like 10 seconds just to load the menu IIRC. |
