What does everyone think of the video in the OP? Does it seem like Pureview, just compressed in YouTube's player?

Nicely done OP, good work :)

As for the video, really hoping it's Pureview.

It most certainly is, and Nokia should be aware that everyone is expecting a Pureview phone, everything else would be dissapointing, this is a short but interesting article on the video http://www.wpcentral.com/why-we-thin...ureview-device

In my dreams Nokia will reveal a high-end 41mp phone 4.7" with current high-end specs, a mid-range 20mp 4.3" dual core, and a low-range with specs equivalent to the current Lumia 800-900. But honestly I only want to se a Pureview phone even if it was the only one phone announced that day, I am growing bored of my Galaxy Note

I have an 808 and the quality of that video doesn't look like it is from a pureview camera. But its yt so who knows.

Yeah, I asked the Windows Phone OT what it should be and that one received overwhelmingly positive feedback. It was my duty to use it.

The Lumina phones are really nice looking. I'm not due for a new phone till next year but the temptation to switch to Android or Windows Phone is rising. Can't wait to see what Nokia shows. Lets see if their showing is better than that new Samsung phone.

They probably will as their entry level phone, then 4.3" for the midrange and 4.8" for their high end one.

That'd be my guess for what's coming from Nokia.

Trail of clues “prove” 21 megapixel Nokia Lumia is coming

Quote:
They noticed the video was strangely 21 seconds long, and that Phi was the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet,
and that 21 was pretty close to half of 41, the number of megapixels in the Nokia 808 Pureview.

Looks like they did not want a mutant phone. Probably will still be the best camera phone barring the 808 though. So definitely isn't a bad thing it is only getting 21 mp.

21mp camera? Wow. Overkill. Would be a waste if the front camera is less than 2. I want HD Skype action.

Also 1080p video is a must.

Right this second, the Ativ S is leading in the race for my money, but Nokia is who I'm really waiting for.

The other part of Nokia's PureView tech is rich recording. So if you're at a concert, instead of it founding like a garbled mess, it ends up sounding pretty good. If they manage to get that into a 21 mega camera without it looking like a hunchback, I'm in.

Pureview isn't just your normal camera hardware with a fancy term, it's an oversampling technique that uses high megapixel sensors to produce higher quality pictures at standard low resolutions. So far there's only been praise for the quality of the photos, and also video recordings that it has produced.

read about how the tech works before you think we all are on the "more megapixels=best spec sheet EVER!!!" boat. the current implementation in the pureview 808 uses a huge 42 megapixel sensor.

21 is a compromise, but I'll wait and see what the test images from retail units look like.

pixel count in pureview is mainly for zooming. if the 21mp pureview has an equally large sensor with a smaller mp count (less zoom), I'm ok with that. pureview really is about the large sensor size providing better low light images and overall improved image quality. the zooming with 42mp was overkill anyway, for vids it was way too shaky.

Also allows a digital zoom to be somewhat close to an optical zoom.... based on the 808 it does a fantastic job. If the 21 mp allows the form factor to be thinner it would be a good compromise.... even 21mp downsampled would be the best camera phone on the market besides the 808.

I'm not bagging anyone. I'm just saying.

To me, a 21mp camera is a waste if the video recording and front camera are sub par. That's all. Again, for me personally.

I'd take a 5mp camera if it meant the front one was 3 and video recording was of a very high quality.

That's not really correct, isn't it? Even if you don't zoom, the photo you eventually get still uses all the pixels to produce it by oversampling.

Honestly, I know everybody's boners are big for PureView but I would much rather the hardware be blistering fast than to have an overexpensive camera to jack the price up. If I'm going to pay $300 for a phone I want to be able to run Angry Birds in 4D.

If WP7 was anything to go by, your blistering fast hardware will have marginal differences in terms of performance. Windows Phone isn't Android.

Well, single core on WP7 was butter, I doubt WP8 on dualcore/quadcore will be anything less than blazing.

Okay, but the bottleneck for front camera recording isn't the megapixel number, it's the quality of the sensor and whatever compression the service you are using imposes on you+the recipient's connection. 2MP has enough pixels to support 1080p recording, but I don't think any application will be using anything more than 720p for the lifetime of this phone+its chipset. I think the correct way to word your statement would be "I'd take a 5mp camera if it meant the lower bill-of-materials costs could allow for a front camera with better quality than the shitty sensors that get tossed in the front of most phones" ;)

And again, there's plenty of videos on youtube in 1080p recorded by the pureview 808 showing the prowess of the sensor+the mics nokia used. I just hope that they haven't compromised the quality too much if the 21MP sensor is the real deal. I'd link some but I can't vouch for the quality of anything from my phone.

Yes Pureview is mainly about the sampling. Zooming is a bonus for such large pixel counts. The larger the pixel count the more sampling can be done. 21 is a decent amount to still get some use from pureview.
