Man the ones on the London underground look like fucking death traps. I figure that safety notice is there for good reason. I don't see why you should get such a hefty fine though... I mean you risked your life not really risking other people's.

Money making scheme at the heart of it. Just like parking tickets.

i hate systems that dont allow walking between cars. london, chicago, nyc are all like that. what if you need to get to the other end of the train? suck it up.

stupid. why dont they make rolling stock that allows passengers to go between cars without it being dangerous? its just lazy.

On a subway you can't. You open that door and you're literally outside. It isn't meant for passenger use at all. On regular commuter trains though, they are. It's like an Amtrak train with nice pass troughs and sliding doors. Subways have none of that and signs all over telling you not to even attempt to open it.

I guess I just hate feeling like a criminal. It's such a shitty feeling to me having someone put you in that position, asking if you've ever been "arrested." Does anyone else get this way? It could be over the smallest thing ever, like this, but it was fucking embarrassing being called over by him in a crowded train. I hate it, and it makes me feel disgusting.

Seems real stupid. You have to basically walk down to the car with less people on the platform rather than get on where ever you are and walk from car to car on the train?

This is about NYC subway trains, not commuter rail lines.

The way the cars are connected makes it a hazard to walk through and would raise the city's liability in the case of accidents.

Here's what the space between cars looks like:

I remember I was a kid once and I just had gotten dairyqueen, my mom rolled down the windows in the car as she hadn't had the time to change the coolant in the air-conditioner, out of chance, my napkin flew out of the window.

Shortly thereafter, a wild fatcop appeared on his motorbike, stopped my mom and gave her a $200 ticket for littering, she started crying and the cop said I had torn up the napkin into shards when I said the napkin flew-out (fucking lied), but my mom would have surely noticed that as she looking at me and telling me to watch the seating. Right then and then there, I decided that fatcop didn't deserve to live.

I still haven't found that cop since, but when I do find him, I will go Wei Shen on his fatass.

It's actually not a universal case. I can't think of a single train or subway in Japan that doesn't allow passengers tp walk between cars.

That's because the way the train tracks are laid out in this city have sharp curves that won't allow for vestibules. Long Island Railroad/Metro North Railroad on the other hand....

My favorite train story: as the train is pulling out of the station a guy runs and jumps into the open entrance. A conductor sees him and starts yelling, calling him an asshole in the process of their exchange. They talk it through and both calm down. After a bit of a pause the guy who jumped said he didn't appreciate being called an asshole and would like the conductor to apologize. The conductor looked him right in the eye and told him: "I don't apologize to every asshole that gets on my train."

It's not a crackdown, it's not taking half a second to look through the windows on the doors of an empty 2am subway car before walking through them and seeing cops who are in transit to another location hanging out.

these look really nice. looks like its mostly standing space too, which is good. i think the MTA cleared some sitting space on certain trains so more people would be able to fit in during rush times.

And this isn't some sort of recent crackdown. It's been this way for a good long while now. Sure, people cross between the trains all the time. Especially the charity workers, performers, beggars, etc. But you will always get a ticket if you get caught by a cop on patrol or a transit cop.

I once got yelled at by a passenger for opening the door to get in while the train was in motion and leaving the platform. He probably thought I broke the door or something. He was pulling on the door as if it could fly open at any time now. As I turned to walk away from him he got in front of me and tried to block me from going down the hallway saying he wouldn't allow me to enter the traincar. It was really bizarre.

Sucks you got caught OP but them's the bricks.

I was riding the RTA to downtown Cleveland during construction and the Casino opening and I watched a poor guy get hit with over 1,000 dollars in fines in a little over 3 minutes for refusing to move his bike to the front of the train car. Well I should say that was his initial offense...spitting at a cop and kicking a window accounted for 75% of the fine....

moral of the story...there is always someone stupider than you! :-)
