Riot mentality is dangerous, it's the same way some bad eggs were able to derail the Occupy movement and get public support on the side of the cops. |

![]() It sucks that there are so many people with nothing better to do than riot and cause violence over something that will not impact them in any way possible. But that's what happens when you have such an intellectually narrow minded culture (see the Penn State riots in the US for an example in the west) |

I almost feel like this is how people who have no outlet want to show their devotion to Allah, and prove they are good Muslims. We don't just have acts of kindness, we have acts of defiance and valor against a godless\pagan superpower that is at war with Islam. You put your life on the line for your religion, you must truly be a faithful follower.
It's like a lot of these people are the young turks, hungry for truth and meaning, and they think they've found it here. |

They do believe the government is responsible in this case, but they've spilled blood for the actions of individuals in the past (see Salman Rushdie, Danish cartoons).

I honestly agree with him and don't think its racist at all. Some of the most intelligent people in the world are Islamic but that still doesn't change the fact that there are a bunch of unstable and violent groups who will cause damage to innocent people. Them being set off to this degree over a shitty video does make a case for isolation from certain content.

I wish the Middle East had the general indifference to America that Americans have towards the region. Granted, there is a sizable "turn it all into a parking lot" group, but the vast majority of Americans don't really give a shit what is going on over there or what they're saying about us. It'd be so much better if they didn't care like we don't care. Then no one would care about any of this nonsense. What happened to apathy?
It's such a wacky area of the world. It seems like it is so old it can't be fixed, no matter which group is in charge at any given time. It's always been like that. There probably hasn't been true peace in the Middle East since before Abrahamic religions took hold. This is all terrible timing for Obama. This will no doubt be held against him by some people on the fence, and I see the Romney campaign going even deeper into blaming him personally for all that's going on right now. This is really the past 70ish years or so coming back to haunt America. We've been fucking around in the area for so long (and obviously the past 20 years or so have been quite unkind) that it's really amazing there has never been a full on "FUCK AMERICA" kind of deal going on in every country in the region. I'm really interested to see where this all heads from a nation relations viewpoint. I feel like Bush would have been ready to drop bombs a few days ago. Maybe Romney, too. I have to wonder if this will be the start of American withdrawal from the area, or if we'll double down and dig in deeper. |

Ya, some of these people just seem to be born to it. No doubt they're in a jealous rage over how just and enlightened and democratic Americans are, expressing their pent up frustrations over many, many decades of enlightened American altruism in the Middle East.

Goddamn these protests are so fucking stupid and against the prophets teachings.
People wrote insulting poetry about him and threw trash infront of his house yet he did not react, I'm an exmuslim and I respect Muhammad for his character and these 'muslims' who think they are protecting the prophets honor by doing these acts need to look back and read about their own fucking religion, gah these people are starting to protest in the Gulf states and they are so full of shit it makes me sick. It is no wonder Westerners see us as a savage people when so many act like animals everytime a goddamn STUPID video on youtube is sent around BB broadcasts and twitter. |

Guilt tripping won't work here. I've held your view my entire life and they keep proving me wrong. This isn't about Islam. It's about a culture that feels honor is worth killing for. I hold the same judgement for Christians who bomb abortion clinics - "they don't know better" is not a valid excuse.

If anyone has that perspective in the west, then they're simply idiots. There are several countries with Muslims majorities where people haven't given a fuck about this video. If you've noticed, most of the countries where these violent protest have been happening, there has been a civil unrest for awhile, and most of them have somewhat of a bad relationship with the US. This video seems to have been the breaking point and the people want to take their anger out of the US. |

Not as much anymore. It (it being the vandalization and undue destruction of abortion clinics, not necessarily through bombings) happened quite often during the aughts. The abortion clinics I know of personally get a lot of people coming in attempting to spread prolife propaganda, which usually results in someone yelling and begrudgingly leaving or the cops being called. But from what I've seen personally, i've seen more ignorance at 3am at an innercity McDonalds.
The message is the same, but the means are less extreme. It's still wrong. It makes more sense to get those people out rather than putting more people in harms way. |
