Take Stargate Universe for example. I loved that show, and they really got their shit together in season two, but the first half of season one was a massive clusterfuck. They had a strong series premiere number, but messed up enough to lose half of those viewers by the mid season finale. The show just never managed to regain that audience due to a bumbled started. Same thing happened with Dollhouse, Caprica, and plenty of other shows. Arrested Development didn't end because FOX were being dicks. It ended because it wasn't getting enough audience at that point. Most shows bleed viewers, and in Arrested Development's case, being a serialized comedy really hurt them. They couldn't gain new viewers as easily because if anyone tries to jump into season 2 or 3, they would miss so many of the inside jokes that make the series so good. |

Too Early: Pushing Daisies. That show had so very, very much potential. KILL KILL KILL: Glee. One episode of that show was enough to convince me no one should ever watch it. |

Too early: Twin Peaks
It wasn't going in the best direction, but I wish it could have been better. I wasn't completely satisfied with how it ended, because there was a lack of closure, even though some of the major questions were answered. Kill: Grey's anatomy, law & order (all of them), too many to list. |

Too Early : Firefly, Chicago Code (wasnt that great of a show, but it was getting better and would have liked to see a season 2) oh and definitely Awake (dat finale)
![]() Kill now: Dexter, all the singing shows, anything involving Teenagers on mtv and anything involving beauty pageants with kids, oh and almost 90% of the "reality shows" , real housewives and shit |

Also ![]() I loved the quirkiness but understandably it struggled to find an audience. |

I don't think it's time yet for Dexter to go. The problem is that they dilly-dallied around with seasons 5 and 6 instead of covering material that needs to be covered. There's still potential there, and things that haven't been explored. It's not like a lot of shows that just get stale or go completely insane. It just lulled into a comfort zone and hopefully season 6's finale will pull it out.

Odyssey 5 was killed off far too early. Only one season and it was awesome, and from what I can tell because Showtime didn't want scifi stuff. Another is the V remake series. It wasn't a great show, but I liked it, and really wanted to see where they'd go after that Season 2 finale.
Heroes I think falls into both categories. The Writer's Strike ruined the show and it wasn't great for a while, a far cry from the awesome season 1. But season 4 wasn't bad at all and the show seemed on an upswing. So definitely one that should have been put out of it's misery, but simultaneously killed too soon as it was trying to repair. |

![]() NBC's Awake. Solid if not spectacular show for its first season, especially for such an intriguing concept. Kill: Nuke everything on Bravo from orbit (the announcer too, damn is he annoying), along with most of the stuff on Fox. And all of the red-neck reality TV that's been plaguing Discovery as of late. But really, modern network TV in general is crap.

Killed too early: basically nothing. Way more shows overstay their welcome and since there are so many good shows on I rarely regret only getting 13 episodes of something. I'd rather have 13 great episodes than 100 where 50+ are garbage.
Needs to be killed: way too many to list. One easy example is Supernatural. |

Too early:
Carnivale Wonderfalls Pushing Daisies Farscape Pretender Better Off Ted Dead Like Me Joan of Arcadia - Garbage, but I enjoyed the show as a guilty pleasure Too late: Earth: Final Conflict - that last season holds the title "Biggest decline of quality in a TV series between two seasons"... and the 4th season wasn't that good to begin with Exactly right: Daria - I love the show, but I can't help but feel that they ended it at exactly the right time Michael T. Weiss is awesome, too bad he never got anything afterwards. This show should've gone on forever.

This is also true. Imagine how amazing the series would be if it ended at the resolution of the Laura Palmer murder.
Saying that, the Windom Earle stuff really brought season 2 back on-track after the dip halfway through. |

I see that the majority of this thread is living in a world where liking a show trumps ratings.
You're fucking off your rocker, you are. If you thought that was a good show (admittedly, it had a good middle), and a good marketing campaign. Ron Moore and his crew can't build worlds for shit. They can put ideas on paper, but that's it. And as others have said, it just didn't have ratings. And one of the few cop shows set in a true coastal town, let alone one of the few shows set in San Diego.
