For me shows that died off too early include the following:

Life
Terriers
Lights Out
Firefly
Stargate Universe
Jericho
And Rome.

Rome was sad because of that fire that destroy many of their sets, or so I read. It was probably the biggest contributor to its cancellation.

Life downright pissed me off because the show was pretty much cancelled because of Jay Leno. He didn't want to retire after the Tonight Show was to pass to Conan so NBC decided to cut most of its 9 PM (central timezone) shows or move them to other nights and/or time slots so that Leno could have a 9 PM talk show which bombed. Life was not moved because its subject matter was deemed inappropriate for 7 or 8 PM so it got the axe. Were it not for Leno that show would likely have run longer.

Stargate Universe had finally found its stride in season 2 but it was axed as Sci Fi/Sy Fy usually does to divert money from one or two expensive shows into 3-6 less expensive ones that were either cheap reality programming (Ghost Hunter style), original programming (Alphas), remakes of foreign programs (Being Human), or directly porting over Canadian television shows (Lost Girl and the upcoming Continuum). Some of these new programs are good while others are just awful.

Wish they'd kill:
The Office
Dexter
but the damage is already done. Stopped watching them a season or two ago, and probably should have before that even.
Shows that were on for just the right amount of time: The Shield, The Wire, Breaking Bad (at least it seems this way).

Sony killed it with only 2 or 3 episodes left to complete the series. They should've just finished the last episodes.

Too Early: Wonderfalls, Firefly, AD, oh there is a ton of them. Actually King of the Hill. That show could have gone on forever. It never really swayed in quality.

With the time to end it thing. It should only be about shows that you enjoyed that have gone downhill so much that they are only hurting their legacy. If a show always sucked then why do you care?

Time to end it: The Office US. I think it had about 5 good seasons, and a lot of good episodes after that, but the end of Michael Scott should have been the end. They should have tied everything up that season for all the characters and not dragged out that season hoping that they could keep it going.

The Simpsons goes without saying but I guess I will say it just one more time.

True Blood, Weeds and Dexter: All three of these shows started somewhat serious with a bit of comedy and a nice balance of being serious enough that you found the stories and characters compelling. And then at some point, pretty much around season three with all of those shows they gave up on the attempt to be somewhat serious and went full blown crazy late night soap opera.

Battlestar Galactica: After season 2 it really became a mess. And it is not so much that it needed to end early, but they constricted the universe to such a level that there was nowhere to go with it. Lets talk about unions and work conditions for 5 episodes. Lets explore abortion for a couple of episodes. Religious cults are interesting, lets put the antagonists and one of the more entertaining characters in that setting for awhile. Such a great idea that just lost itself in trying to be overbearing with modern day politics.

This topic illustrates how HBO's programming excels above the competition.

Killed too early: Deadwood, Carnivale, Luck, John from Cincinatti, etc. All HBO shows.

Needs to be killed: Dexter and Weeds. Soon to be joined by Homeland. All Showtime shows.

HBO's vision often exceeds their budgets and Showtime's ideas often overstay their welcome.

Ended on a major cliffhanger. It's too bad that it was an ABC Family show, because without all the teen angsty bullshit it was pretty good. Fun fact, the dad from the show is doing the motion capture for Master Chief in Halo 4.

Killed too early: Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda - the ending of the 5th season was an incredibly rushed ending, it obviously wasn't supposed to end there and they quickly stuck together a 2-episode final arc. I wish it'd had at least one more full season to give it a better ending. Great show...

Farscape is another great choice. It's really sad that it had to end with that incredibly rushed special, instead of at least getting a full 5th season like it deserved... one of the best sci-fi shows around!

Rome and Deadwood could have went on for so much longer :(

Game of Thrones and Spartacus are really no substitutes for Rome, as fun as they may be.

And Hell on Wheels? Shit.

Recently, Luck's cancellation really got me. Dennis Farina and Dustin Hoffman alone made for the best tv cast out there. Loved all their scenes. Then you had Mann overseeing direction and Milch writing plus a great supporting cast :(

The shows I feel should be killed I don't watch and if they were cancelled it isn't likely a quality show would take it's place so it doesn't bother me.

Dexter should've had him been a fugitive already they wasted too much time stretching shit out but I don't hate the show. It's still entertaining sometimes, I keep watching it because I've seen so much of it and want to see how it ends like Smallville.

- Millennium had so much potential, they went for the wrong route during season three but I would have loved more.
- Deadwood is the best god dam show ever to air and they just killed it :(
- Rome They offed Caesar way too fast, this should have been 10 season epic show.

- Firefly wasn't killed fast enough, should have ended after pilot :x
- X-Files went on too long, after Mulder left there really was not point to continue, even before that it could have been wrapped up.
- The Wire 5th season was just fucking terrible, even the fourth season was bit too preachy for my taste.

Probably been said 100 times already, but, Firefly.

Also:
Stargate Atlantis - After 10 seasons and 3 movies of SG-1, SGA felt like it was cut too short
Stargate Universe - Admit it, it was getting good!
The Dresden Files - Had a nice spin on all the law shows around.
Dead Like Me - I thought it was highly enjoyable

EDIT: OH! Forgot something:

Should of been killed earlier:
Heroes - 1st season was amazing. After the 2nd season they should of put a fork in it.

Given that Dr. Who Reboots every time so I don't see a problem, long as they can keep writing interesting stories. Haven't seen any of the shows from the 00s so can't say if they are any good.

And now that you mentioned brit shows I think they should have canned Red Dwarf very early on and not to bother with the new show.

Rome would've benefited from just one more season. If I had my way, the first season would've ended with the Battle of Pharsalus and the death of Pompey, the second season would've ended with the Battle of Philippi, and the third season would've ended with Octavius's victory over Antony at the Battle of Actium, just as it had. Rome's problems are ones of omission, not necessarily pacing, and breaking it up like this would've gone a long way to solving them.

Actually, and this is the real tragedy of HBO cancelling the best show ever after 3 seasons, the show would have needed 1 more season to be completed, as Deadwood burned down the next year. Deadwood should have been a 4 season show.

Well, they did rebuild and Al started another saloon"whore house and tightened his grip of Deadwood after the first time the town burned to ground. There would have been still much to do. Methodist church vs. Al would have been awesome battle to see.

My fiancee loved this show -- I thought it was pretty decent but it was one of her favorites for that time period where it was on. A shame, I think it could have grown. Surprised we've gotten more Bob's Burgers to be honest.

I still loved Veronica Mars season 3 personally.. would have loved to see more. Outside of Party Down (RIP) and Sarah Marshall, Kristin Bell has just been in utter shit since it too which makes me sad. :( That consultant show on Showtime is not very good but it's at least not utter dreck like all of her rom-coms have been.
