My favorite phone ever was a Nokia phone. We are talking old school snake days, 12 buttons, not much else going on there. Just simple make a phone call.

Now 10 plus years later they are using Windows which is an underdog as crazy as that may seem. And I do not like Apple. I was always a PC user at home, and then both in high school and college I was forced to use Apple products and was not happy about it.

Then Blackberry came along, that was nice for typing and emails but still not as easy to use as my old Nokia. Then IPod which I loved, but not a smart phone. Then IPhone which reminded me so much of the high school and college years where the ability to do things outside the lines was constricted by a very simplistic and intelligent interface that still felt very controlled and incapable of being manipulated.

Then we had Android, which was completely open, but lacked real vision and an overall gameplan. This app worked on this phone, this phone was to slow for that app, and it was just wild west.

MS brought together IMO the best of both worlds, and then when my favorite phone maker embraced them, I was on board. So yeah, Nokia and MS all the way. I have been typing for so long that I do not remember the topic. I hope it at least involved phones.

People were saying the same thing about iOS vs Android as iOS completely dominated the market before. All it takes is to make a sexy phone that's advertised well (see Samsung) and be able to differentiate your features.

Problem Microsoft has is they don't know how to develop a product from a minority share standpoint. You have to be a lot more open and more innovative when you're not the top dog.

The other problem Microsoft has going forward is just brand reputation in general. Google and Samsung did well in part to their brand reputation also, Samsung for taking over Sony as the current defacto screen provider, and Google with their mindshare.

Microsoft has a "boring and dated" brand reputation.

I'm planning on buying a Lumia 920 mostly due to Windows Phone 8 and secondly to Nokia build quality. I'm tired of Android and ready for something new.

Basically

But I'm an Apple guy, so my infrastructure has to suit it. But since it is Windows, I don't think I'll ever get one

I don't see how they can compete unless they have Nokia and others sell the phones for dirt cheap. I'm sure they are reluctant to do that though. Not just because it costs more but you don't want a reputation as the cheap phone maker/OS. It taints the brand a bit.

Better to be "boring and dated" than to be cheap and "uncool" to the kids. Rightly or wrongly, phones are a sort of status-symbol right now and nobody wants the cheap phone!

I'll buy one as as soon as Windows Phone 8 and my current contract's up. Love Windows Phone OS, and the new 920 looks pretty great.

I love their current hardware but tbh... I'm too invested on the apple ecosystem... plus Windows Phone doesn't appeal to me at all (many people at work have it)

I really liked the N9 but... it had dead OS. They need a good OS, with an upgrade path.

For it to run stock Android and carry the name "Nexus."

It would also need to be on the bleeding edge, which Nokia's phones recently have not been.

I'd be interested if:
- Apple stops making phones.
- Nokia offered Android (preferably stock)

Windows Phone is a good OS, but iOS and Android are better.

I have a GS3 at the moment and I'm seriously considering the 820 or 920 as a second phone for work, mainly because of Office 365. I love the look of the Lumias and the hardware and ecosystem they have now is very impressive.

I probably wouldn't go back to Nokia unless it was a Playstation Certified, stock Android with a decent screen, decent processor and comparable battery life to other phones in its class.

Going to be my next phone, replacing a slightly worn but well used Omnia 7.

Honestly couldn't imagine having to settle for Android; don't know why anyone would think Android is an advantage for a phone rather than something to be begrudgingly tolerated.

I am always surprised people actually like android. I think it is more a "I need to pick a team" thing other than really enjoying the offerings, because of how ugly android is in reality. and how unintuitive.

Strange. You might not have picked up an Android phone lately but for the last year or so it's made iOS look well dated. Android is just pure sexy these days. And extremely easy to use.

Gotta say I agree..... It's not a shiny, futuristic, beautiful OS.... I'm surprised at the enthusiasm, and I'm a pretty platform agnostic guy who would own every piece of tech under the sun if I could.

I think iOS is old but beautiful. And Win Phone is beautiful. Android confuses me. I don't think it looks good at all.

I have a Nexus 7 sitting right next to me.
