I think both your PC and Android links go to the Android trailer. EDIT: Fixed.

I'm still not sure if I'll like this game but since it's free, I'll definitely give it a shot. Loved the original PSO but hated PSU. Hoping for the best.

This is the game that will get me to buy a Vita. Please release it in the US, Sega. I don't want to have to import a Japanese Vita system.

Online play is region locked on Vita, right?

You wouldn't have to buy a system, just create a Japanese PSN id should suffice I think.

PSO on Vita looks really good. I'm getting it if it comes out here.

From what I can see on the offscreen video the Vita version frame rate seems very solid! I hope SEGA makes the right call and doesn't restrict it to PC in the west.

The lack of aliasing is visible and sadly there are still pretty big slowdowns sometimes. Overall, the game runs much better than I expected it too, but still needs polish to become a truly enjoyable experience.
Accessing the subpallet via the touchscreen is welcomed feature, but it seems you're able to use items by pressing the buttons as well.
One thing that I really didn't like, was that the confirmation button is the same as the one responsible for picking items. During the short talk I had with Sakai-san I addressed this concern, but was told it works the same as in the PSP1/2(i), meaning that holding the button lets you pick up items.
I still have mixed feelings about the Vita version, mainly because of the mentioned slowdowns, but I understand that it's a work in progress and hope that those issues will be resolved. On the other hand, the game isn't much of a looker either - a bit too pixelated for my tastes.
Despite all that, I'm still hyped for this version and hope all is well in time for the release.

Smartphone version

The system details are explained in the Bumped article which Killthee posted above. As for the gameplay itself, fights are rather easy if you know what you're doing - few hits and the enemies are down.
You can use Photon Arts and chain them with normal attacks, dodging requires appropriate timing although it's rather forgiving.
It's also possible to summon your allies, but I totally forgot about that while playing and haven't used that feature even once.
Will download day 1 but probably won't play it at home where I have access to the much superior PC (Vita) versions. Production values are definitely there though, so don't worry for it to be some kind of a cheap tie-in.

New field and boss

I like the look of the ruins but as for the boss... The fight was really hard, but that's to be expected when playing with randoms - when we had a minute left and I tried to do a triple mag attack, no one joined me, despite everyone having their bars fool. It certainly isn't a easy fight though, since there are no easily reachable by everyone weak spots (or at least I didn't notice any) and it hits quite hard.
What I really liked was the size - this new baddie is definitely bigger than all the previous bosses, at least while standing.
All in all, I can't wait for the new field update!

Other stuff

When I was leaving TGS I stumbled across Sakai-san, took a picture with him and talked for a bit. Most importantly, I've asked him about Phantasy Star Portable 1/2/2i not being on the Vita. Sadly, because making the PSP series playable on the Vita would be a really hard thing to do, it probably won't happen. Don't keep your fingers crossed I guess.

PC version confirmed for west yet? I dabbled in the alpha for JP version, but couldn't enjoy it due to the language barrier. Game played quite well though and looks sharp on my PC.

I'm still bitter the lack of Beast race, but I'll be picking up the english PC version regardless.

PSP2 will remain my go-to portable game though, as I much prefer the Gurhal (Alfa System) games.

Doubt the Andyphone version would make it over, but would buy if it did.

Yes. It was confirmed for an Early 2013 release. Wikipedia mentions a Jan 2013 NA date and Feb 2013 for EU. Also, has a English site.

Of this free-to-play game that is tied to one account independent of the platform? Yes. Everyone with a Vita and a PC that has interest in this game will get both versions unless they have a severe download cap.

Oh I can wait. I mentioned I was in the alpha test. Trying to figure out all the JP text or using the mod for English text just wasn't my cup of tea. I'd much rather approach it when its ready from SEGA for the western release and go through the motions then.

A gauntlet of games to keep me busy till then.(Persona 4, Tekken Tag 2, Blands 2, Dead or Alive 5, Halo 4, etc)

That looked really good. I've only played a little bit of PSO on the PSP, but I enjoyed it.

If this comes to the States, I'll definitely pick it up. I like that there was a row of skills at the bottom of the screen for touch. I'd love to see SOE bring DCUO to the Vita, and implement a similar setup for skills.

I also really like the idea of cross play that we've been seeing developers implementing lately. I'm thinking it may end up being further pushed on next gen consoles and PC. At least, I feel it should be a bigger emphasis for consoles next gen.

Any recommendations for some good F2P games to try out? I'm always up for something new, but I've barely played any F2P games out there besides TF2. Right now, this and Marvel Heroes are the only two on my radar.

As I mentioned in the PSO2 thread I tried the demo of this at TGS and it was indeed quite nice. I was sure the frame rate would be a showstopper for me, but with 3 other players and a freaking dragon all on the screen it held up pretty well in my eyes.

So, long story short the demo pretty much sold me. Day 1 if this gets a US release.

This, Soul Sacrifice, Ragnorok Odyssey AND God Eater 2? The Vita is sure as hell loaded when it comes to action.

That vita off screen footage looks so solid, did a pretty good job of selling the game to me. Excellent use of the touch screen with the bottom row of items/actions. You can just press on anything you want like a button instead of having to go through a menu or annoyingly cycle through your inventory in real time.
