Beta footage for the Xbox 1 version of Kameo
#1
Hey everyone, hope everyone has been enjoying the sudden onslaught of RARE footage lately. I have one more to add to the pile : Kameo, for the original Xbox.
Sure, it isn't the older Gamecube version, and it looks almost identical to the 360 version that would later come out, but I am happy to finally play the Xbox 1 version. It seems to be mostly complete, although I haven't gotten to testing every little thing yet. I've posted the first 40 minutes or so of the game, along with the unfinished ending cutscene. Exciting stuff! Footage is available in higher quality from my site, or you can view it on youtube. Higher quality (plus a short write-up featuring the Gamecube version as well as this version) : http://ptoponline.com/?p=688 Youtube link : http://youtube.com/ptoponline (Full disclosure, my site, yadayada. You guys like most of the beta games I post :P) Here are a few screenshots to get you started ![]() ![]() ![]()

The art style looks better, at a glance.
Edit: I think I'm just looking at the bright images in the OP for too long. The simplified outdoor lighting looks to be the main difference. The drab areas look just as uninteresting as they did on the 360.

I think I played this at E3 2004. I remember fighting a graphically impressive giant tree or something. And maybe the tree had boxing gloves.
Does any of this sound right? I never played the retail release of Kameo. Don't have time to watch the videos right now. |

Hey guys, remember THIS!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kInzteQhbf8&feature=plcp I swore to myself that the day that game was released, I would buy an Xbox. The fuck happened? |

I know it was on display at e3, so it wouldn't be surprising.

Sounds right, you had the boxing gloves though not the tree.

Those words hurt so much because it's probably true. I would love to see sequal but it'll likely never happen with in-house Rare. I'd want to say that poorer games have gotten multiple sequals. Can't MS sub it out?

At least, those were the two that impressed me the most until I got Geometry Wars and started playing something. Anyway, it really looks great. The Xbox was indeed a fat beast of a machine.

Perfect Dark is on the list of things I need to get next. Happy with Kameo though :P

Oh yeah, I mean when compared to 5 years down the line. It makes sense considering they are likely rushing the game out to meet the deadline. Wasn't Perfect Dark Zero also originally an Xbox title?

Yep. Well, actually both these games started out on the Gamecube before migrating to the Xbox (and the 360)

The graphical and geometrical complexities in that first cameo screen are far superior to the one you posted. I'm not going to say anything on the quality of the games. That is my analysis on a screen vs. screen comparison.

To be fair, this was a gamecube game originally and even then it looked pretty similar visually

It doesn't really matter anyway because Conker Live and Reloaded, an actual released game, is evidence enough that Xbox was significantly more powerful than GC and PS2.

Edit: I should say, I wasn't arguing his hypothesis about the gamecube. Just that his screen was better than the OP ones.

For this one, someone found it on a debug kit. I was going to have to spend some big money to get it from someone else, this worked much better though.

I dunno about that, Conker didn't seem like that much of an improvement over Star Fox Adventures, especially considering SFA runs at twice the framerate and was released in the first year of the Gamecube's life.
