Would you want a Pokemon X Monster Hunter game? Do you think it'll happen?
#1
Thanks to Tri G's success on 3DS and the upcoming Tri Ultimate for Wii U/3DS and Monster Hunter 4 for 3DS, it looks like Monster Hunter is a series that's going to be staying on Nintendo platforms for some time to come. Do you think the Monster Hunter team's current relationship with Nintendo will allow for a potential collaboration in the future?
From a business standpoint Pocket Monster Hunter (or Pokemon Hunter for America) makes a lot of sense but from a gameplay standpoint, I don't know how okay Nintendo and the Pokemon Company would be with people chopping off Charizard's tail, Suicune's mane and Dialga's helm using them for armor. I'm sure they would have to tone down the "carving" aspect, but probably not as much as one might think. I've seen this discussion on a number of other forums but I've never really seen it on GAF. Thoughts? Would you want a Pokemon X Monster Hunter game? Do you think it'll happen? Would you buy it? Obviously, I'm not the only one who thinks this would be a good idea... ![]() If they could cross-over Nobunaga's Ambition and Pokemon, Monster Hunter should be a breeze. BONUS: Some people even have armor ideas... ![]() ![]() ![]()

The more I think about this game the more it makes sense. So many cool monster designs ready to use, lots of diverse weapons and elements to wield. Wild Rhydons and Charmeleons roaming around, Gyarados terrorizing the village... so many possibilities.

Yes but instead of catching them you kill them and use their natural resources to create new armor and weapons. Or in Venusaur's case some cool herbs and decorations.

Yeah, I'm thinking the "slaying and carving up monsters for their precious body parts" might be a barrier to making this type of game with Pokemon characters. They'd have to dress that bit up to make it more acceptable, but this would likely be pretty awesome.

You could also just capture them and keep them on your farm, using them to harvest resources. Plant pokemon could provide tranquilizers, Electric ones could powerup your weapons, Fire pokemon could help you forge and upgrade weapons, Water pokemon could help keep your crops healthy, etc. etc.

It would only work if the cutting off parts aspect was replaced with just "disabling" those parts, and instead of carving the monster up, you just did some kind of scan or magic spell that let you copy their "essence" for armor creation.

The dragons, legendaries and bigger Pokemon would all be fair game though. ![]() They made a Nobunaga crossover though. Don't forget that.

I don't think Nintendo would want people to hunt their Pokemon like that, even the big ugly ones. I'd personally just want them to finally make a 3D Pokemon game with a beautiful new world to explore and new mechanics that more resemble the way things went in the anime. Trainers shouting orders while Pokemon fight in real time based on those, their previous training, personality etc. Using them outside combat as well. Maybe some GTA sandbox elements with hefty penalties that stop you from going all out like terrorizing a city with a giant Pokemon. Although those evil teams could do that in quests you'd send an equivalent Pokemon to stop them. Something that looks like Ni No Kuni but plays amazingly with variety and solid, polished mechanics.

This could work, but only if you remove the humans killing pokemon aspect. Instead, give us control of a Pokemon directly and allow us to work up the food chain and take over areas or something.
But yeah, Monster Hunter isn't really the greatest franchise to cross over with pokemon. |

Yeah, I think it could work. You could have one or two pokemon sidekicks helping you out in battle, and when you "defeat" a wild pokemon, you might just automatically capture it and it gets sent back to the pokemon center where it can be "exchanged" for items that just happen to look like they were ripped off that pokemon. It would make a shitton of money, but the question for those companies probably is, would it make more money than just continuing to make separate MH and Pokemon games?

Even the spinoffs tend to play close to the original battle system - even mystery dungeon! |
