Media Create Sales: Week 40, 2012 (Oct 01 - Oct 07)

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
MS used to have a Tokyo R&D studio in the mid 2000s, with a lot of ex-Sega and Square people. They made Magatama and Phantom Dust on Xbox 1, and I believe started work on Lost Odyssey with Mistwalker before being shut down in 2006 (though most of the staff migrated to AQi/feelplus anyway I think).

MS lack of continued investment in Japan is one of the main reasons I lost interest in my 360. These days they only seem interested in pushing for Kinect stuff there.

AQI pretty much was Microsoft's investment to offload their internal team into a separate company.

Do you mean its LTD sales? Or it's weekly sales?

Because the former is true, but the later is crazy given the drop Vita sales experienced this week.

The weekly ones, obviously it had a much bigger week last week but ignoring that anomaly it is slowly increasing on average. But again - it's not significant enough. It needs jumps up like last week every week.

I'm actually curious now, can someone post a comparison of major multiplatform PS360 games which had simultaneous releases in the last 4-5 years? Major being say... games where it sold over 200k on at least one platform. Thanks. :)

Quick and dirty.

Someone with more time can make a chart to illustrate.

New colors for PSV are this week or next ? With them annouced it's taking a few k from weekly sales from people waiting for them.

He said releatively so it depends on how those did compared to the rest of the world or previous releases, both of those (ME3 and BL2) had better openings than their previous entries iirc.

It wasn't mentioned how RE6 stacked up to 5 other than a lowere debut spot on the chart.

Its selling less then Fifa which sells cod numbers in Europe

You are very wrong at both

Sorry I meant month but it is probably wrong anyway as I counted miku being counted for september but it might be counted for august now that i think about it . Which would be the biggest month for vita and PS3? I would have thought november or december but I haven't actually kept up on up and coming software releases for the territory for the final two months.

What numbers are you looking at? It isn't increasing on average at all.

Woah, one million Vita's sold. That's a one and six zeros. I've never sold one million of anything and Sony did it just like that. They didn't even have to try. Amazing.

Interesting. I knew about the 360 version being better, but I didn't think that it would have made such an impact in sales. While with most other games the 360 versions were only a small fraction of the total, here it's about one third.

Biggest month for Vita is Dec 2011, biggest for PS3 Dec 2009

It's not slowly increasing on average

Ignoring the two bumps for P4G and PDf, the average weekly gain remains unchanged.

360 outselling the Wii is pretty crazy.

And the Vita finally reaches a million. How does that compare to other handhelds/consoles?

Do people honestly think MS ever had a chance in Japan?

I'd say that the only way they could have done anything in this country is with some sort of Monster Hunter like game from a Japanese dev exclusive to the machine or outright buying some company like Squeenix.

I swear it started last month at about 6k weekly average and is starting this one at 7k weekly average? That's a increase to me, if I'm remembering correctly.

Yes it got a bump from a new release last week and is now down to almost the same level 1 week later. It also hasn't bottomed out yet either.

It's the navy blue right? Cos it is going up. Obviously very very slowly but that was the point I was making.

It really isn't besides the few bumps it got. Within the next few weeks it's going to pretty much be at its lowest point. Even if it was going up, going from 6K to 7K pretty much means absolutely nothing.

It had Monster Hunter and it didn't help.

Well, there would be something very wrong with it if it were going down.

One monster hunter is console exclusive to Xbox 360.

Those RE6 numbers are depressing. RE6 is basically a westernized shooter done wrong and yet it sold that much? I guess it's a combination of brand name plus the always deceiving Famitsu review scores. I bet stores will be full of used copies next week after most people end up returning the game.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Umm. Unless Vita start negatively selling, won't it always go up on that type of graph?

I think you're imagining things lol. It really isn't.

If it is the navy blue - look at the chart YOU posted, it has had a small bump and stayed and around that level - hence a small increase.

Edit : obviously it can't go down lol but it could stay in a straight like which it isn't - by a tiny amount. Anyway it doesn't matter.

Xbox was regularly outselling PS3 fat when they had secured long stream of exclusive jRPGs - but it all went down the drain when first "1 year late" port released and also PS3 reached mainstream price.

Wow at 360 sales. Least the Wii is dead in time for the WiiU; no DS US type situation, no not at all :p
PS3 bump just as impressive.

Massive RE6 figures anyway. Maybe this is what people want all along.

So RE6 on PS3 almost doubles on the RE5 PS3 opening, but on the 360 sales have dropped to about 1/3 of RE5 360's opening week. It's going to be really, really hard for MS to have any worthwhile presence in Japan in the future imo. They were making some progress a few years back, but they've basically flushed it all away. I really don't envision the next MS console even being marketed much in Japan at all.

They usually pop up at TGS ofc and didn't this year; they've not managed to grab the market at all. It might depend on PS4 if MS try to engage with Japan again but I think everyone will struggle against the WiiU in Japan.

Vita sales above one million but that must be one of the lowest weekly sales in a while. Can only see them going one way now sadly.

Really good 3DS again; on track to go quite a bit above the PS3 LTD by the end of the year. Those bundles too will help boost upgrades from 3DS to LL sales. Should be killer this Christmas. Though a number of games seem to be losing their legs now; no three headed beast this year (that'll be for WiiU).

Yeah, it seems that way and the MGS Tokyo guys basically merged with Nautilus and Scarab to form feelplus iirc. I've heard MS was also involved with starting up Artoon (who later became part of AQi) and Mistwalker to some extent.

For a couple weeks, yes, because PDf had a tail. That's why you have to ignore the change induced by P4G and PDf -- they don't represent the general trends, only those people who wanted to buy the system for those games.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

No. It will ALWAYS go up if it sells any. If it sold 100 units, it would rise. That's what that graph is showing. If there was an average WEEKLY increase like you said there was, there would be a steeper climb as time went on.

Ah I see - fair enough then, thanks!

Yeah the difference between DC and Vita will only get bigger with no new games announced for Vita in the coming weeks.
