Valve's economist talks about game economies, Valve hardware, virtual reality, more
#1
Valve's economist, mr Varoufakis, wrote an article about a month ago about his experiences working at the company. This is, to my knowledge, the only full english translation of that article. I translated it myself, so please excuse any errors in grammar or syntax. The article contains quite a few stuff of interest to gamers, the most important of which I've highlighted. I skipped the last two paragraphs as they don't contain any gaming-related info. Enjoy!

The Gabecube cometh. Exciting to see the rumors of a Linux based ecosystem are anchored in something on Valve's own site.
Wow, what a contribution.

I'm confused...you did a Greek-->English translation of an article that's an English-->Greek translation of a really old blog entry?

I read the whole thing, that was a great read and the last paragraph sounds exciting. Many thanks for the translation.

The implications of his comment on Valve's research sounds amazing -- but insanely expensive (Virtual reality and holographic tech aren't exactly at an advanced level at the moment.), at a military/government level. Are they really that rich, and sure of a profitable return? Are they working with the military? Valve should film a documentary during the development of a game, or a project of some sorts. That would probably be hugely entertaining.

If you're talking about a box that goes under the tv, it is wishful thinking. That's a dead-end business where you go to lose money. |
