Derek stinks, he's completely closed-minded and cynical towards almost everything that isn't made by Nintendo. Pretty much the anti-Mark. His reviews are mostly filled with lame puns and random whining about something unrelated to the game. TJ is the best Undertow reviewer by a long shot - he's extremely insightful and informative, and he's constantly making out-there analogies and references which tie perfectly into the game that he's covering.

Sometimes it seems like the reviews games without finishing them. Like a lot of his SMT game reviews. He's pretty entertaining though.

I'm a fan of it, it's highly positive without diving into hyperbole and generally has me thinking "video games, fuck yeah" after I'm done watching some of it. I don't really go to it actually looking for reviews, but it's plenty entertaining listening to Mark rattle off the things he likes in whatever random game or peripheral he's showing.

It's also given me a greater appreciation for pinball.

I just started watching this series today thanks to this thread. It's pretty enjoyable - as mentioned earlier, a lot of gaming culture today is very negative and kind of a drag given that it's supposed to be a hobby that people enjoy, so coming across a series where the reviewer actually seems enthusiastic about playing games is nice.

My theory is that he just sent Mark one big-ass box of games and Mark's just been going through them over the past several months.

EDIT: Ooh, interview? Neat!

EDIT2: Mohammed paid $600 for a Klonoa plush. Yep. He's loaded. Seems he runs some sort of company that makes...stuff...or something. He said his company made a Wind Squid plush for Mark, so it must have something to do with fabrics.

Yeah, Derek can be a tad bit annoying, especially when it comes to Nintendo. It's like, dude we get it, you've got a hard-on for anything Nintendo, tone it down a notch.

And I agree with TJ being the best reviewer at Undertow.

Mark is just great, I wish he'd bring back Heyzoos every once in a while. :P

I love RR7, but I also love hearing Mark ripping into it. It's hilarious how much he hates the gal that commentates on your driving. One of the few times where Mark outright dislikes a game.

I enjoy the show and it is great for the times when I see a game title on a well known system that I haven't heard of before. I can search for it on youtube and he will have a video for it, same goes for accessories. The guy is a hard worker and pumps videos out every day. I am not a fan of CGR Undertow though, just a bunch of cynical kids. I do like that he just looks for the fun in games, but that being said it can be hard to find a game that he doesn't recommend. I think he could be a bit more critical (not cynical, but just being honest for review purposes). His videos are more like a showcase with narration. It seems that in order to drag out what would be a 2 minute video into 4 minutes he narrates it very slowly and seems to always repeat the name of the system. "This is Mortal Kombat...for the... Sega Genesis, you've gotta love classic games on the... Sega Genesis. There is nothing like... playing a game with the... Sega Genesis Controller." However, due the amount of content he puts out there everyday I can overlook those flaws. He seems like a cool guy and is a huge video game fan (that collection must be enormous).

Some of my favourites:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghp9ztA3nxQ

Above is his review (Can I even call it that?) of a sandwich that looks so tasty to me at the moment, that I think I will make one later on today. Love the shots of his dog Stella as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n35JHLaKsw0

This... well, I just love his rants that are barely even related to the topic of that video. Bonus points for one of his pinball games interrupting him. I think this was probably more of an excuse for him to test his new audio equipment more than anything else.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ruo6lchKCEk

His reactions in this video around the 3:44 and 4:00 mark make me laugh every time. I love it.

I discovered CGR and Mark years ago, since his company is pretty much one of the first that appear in a search on youtube whenever you type in a game. At first, I was kind of unimpressed and annoyed at the "FIRST GAME REVIEW SHOW ON THE INTERNET" claim, but after doing my research and watching more and more of Mark and his reviews, I really enjoy them now. His style has really grown on me.

Also he likes Hockey (Pens fan, I assume since he lives in Pittsburgh?) so that's a plus too. I also love his fandom for the Vectrex and the fact that he goes to Pinball tourneys and does reviews of many of the machines there.

I wouldn't have bought EDF: Insect Armageddon if it weren't for his review. I like how I can discover new games that I normally would pass on via CGR.

Mark's basically a guy that I think would be cool just to hang out, have some beers and play some games with. The show reflects the laid back attitude and I love it all the more for that.

One thing I liked about how Mark reviews games is how he is enthusiastic whenever he plays them. Gives you that feel that he is indeed enjoying the games he's playing.

Also, I like how most, if not all of the games he chooses for GOTY are games based on his taste. I can't forget how people kept on bitching at his 2009 GOTY list lol

I love CGR but sadly I haven't kept up in the last year or so (since I got married). Barely have enough time to watch the Giant Bomb stuff I want to.

The best part definitely is the fact that he'll do both old and new stuff. I really wish Giant Bomb was a little more dynamic with what games they covered like CGR is.
