Interestingly enough, it opens with the title "the cure for the corporate review", which tends to echo the sentiment of his fans (myself included) here.
Not only that, but the review hits all the right buttons for me: he criticizes the game for punishing the player when they wanna go for the 'fun' way (i.e. killing people instead of using stealth) and for having a boring political plot which he compares to having a trade federation in Star Wars (is Mark a Plinkett fan? I'd like to think so!). Also he finally finds a replacement to flamethrowers, an obsession which I never quite got to be honest. Shotguns and rocket launchers are where it's at.
Read these in his voice:
Flamethrowers. Vectrex. Lord Karnage.
Also I love the episodes with his dog and/or beer.

Wait, this is awesome.
Nope. This is great. Gonna watch a bunch of them.
I especially remember his Haze review, which he did in 2 parts. Part 1 was like a standard one of his reviews where he highlights the good things the game does and what you could like about and the comments section was filled with disbelief at how he could say such nice things about it.
That was at least until Part 2 when he showed how broken the game was and set the record straight on his overall feelings on the game. You could sense his disappointment because he LOVES Timesplitters (those reviews are great by the way, should watch all of them). Also really liked his Killzone and Killzone 2 reviews.
Great reviewer, always love seeing a new video in my subscriptions!
I should just check it out anyway at some point. I'm tired of cynical games podcasts. Listening to the Bombcast for as long as I have, I pretty much wait for a Vinny alert like everybody else now. I Iike when Jeff goes on about some obscure game but mostly they talk about AAA games in unimpressed terms and that's getting old. Oh, and how many times am I gonna tolerate Ryan shutting down a crazy discussion about headtracking or flight sims or something but letting people go on at length about word games for their cell phones...
It was started with a mock about the 'winner don't use drugs' and they made this mascot to say 'drugs don't use winners'Originally Posted by Uncle Rupee
I can't believe they made that logo/mascot, stood back from it, and said, "Yep, we're going with this." Guy also has a really weird of way of narra...ting ... his videos.
But for me the best 'mascot' they had was Heyzoos: The coked up chicken... Unfortunately only 3 videos were made:

Awesome review, and really shows just why I like Mark's reviews so much. He doesn't go into technical details or whatnot, "oh the graphics could use some work", "well, the sound wasn't quite up to par", etc. He's only concerned with how much fun he has with the game, and from the sounds of it he loved Parasol Stars. That's awesome. :DOriginally Posted by SolidSnakex

I did a 3 part interview with him about The Art of Video Games exhibition and he was a fantastic interviewer who had some great questions. As well, he did a great review of my book that sits at more than 57,000 views at present. THANKS MARK!
Ehhh, I'd say he's more average with a lot of genres. He does suck at some.Originally Posted by Sub_Level
I'm not sure I would classify CGR as an "informative" review source. He covers the basics and shows some gameplay of him being bad at the game (unless it's a SHMUP, pinball, or driving game). The show is excellent, though. Definitely one of the best videogame reviewers. I...love...his voice.
I also like that he's able to approach games from a perspective of who the games are aimed at. His Brave review does a good job of thatOriginally Posted by Seraphis Cain

I don't really have any interest in the game, but it's nice that he doesn't look down on the game because it's obviously aimed at kids. And that trophy part is hilarious!
Dude has an attitude about gaming that I can really appreciate in this day and age, when it seems like many people play games just looking for a chance to say "this game blows."I like Mark's reviews. Dude pretty much reviews games in a way where he just tells you about them with no real judgment. Is it good? Bad? Well that's ultimately up to your taste, but Mark keeps it very neutral, and seems to find some fun even in games that aren't that spectacular. Just loving the hobby. I like that.
His reviews have both saved and cost me money
One of the rare reviews where he doesn't really care for the game. He doesn't hate it, but ends up finding it to be a dull game after a while.
And he avoids the trap of giving out review scores.
It's pretty much the perfect review show.
VinesauceCGR and AVGN are really the only two things I watch on Youtube. If anybody has any recommendations for other Youtube channels I'd appreciate it :)
Vinny is the coolest motherfucker on the planet and insanely talented. His Mario & Luigi cartoon voiceovers are mindblowing.

They have their own personalities as well. These are the three I've been watching mostly lately.
Game Sack is pretty awesome. Here is an episode guide. They're better than most retro game youtube channels in that they aren't sitting in front of their game collections showing off the crap they just picked up and then begging for likes. It's shot well and they put effort into each episode and the endings are always great.CGR and AVGN are really the only two things I watch on Youtube. This, I agree with.Originally Posted by rampitup46

I discovered them this past summer, and they have quickly shot up to my favourites. I just like how the whole show is done, music, pacing, production overall and what they choose to discuss. Plus they are pretty likeable and grew on me as I watched more and more. I still prefer CGR, but Game Sack is up there for me.
