He all but says in the lecture that a goal of Steam is for users to set up their own stores using the Steam back-end to sell their collection of games to their friends.

like Tim Sweeney, Gabe Newell is always an interesting speaker. they're both highly intelligent people who talk more about the beautiful tech aspects and creative depth gaming offers, and the specific insight they share always gets me more interested in gaming as a whole.

but every time i hear a word come out of Gabe's mouth that sounds like the word "three", this is my reaction lol...
