Read a summary of the first game on Wikipedia or something. It really helps to know what happened, Geralt's place in the world, and who Triss is.

None. All of what happened in the Witcher 1 is explained in a nicely edited video on youtube and the Codec/in game encyclopedia has all the info of what took place in the past. I jumped in the series just like you did and enjoyed the story and environments greatly.

Sounds good except the console stuff. The world size is a little worrisome too as it's already hinting that it will fall into standard open world design of "fuck we made it too big. Uhh...throw some random shit on the map to make it look not as empty".
