One problem with voting with your wallet: There's no *nuance* to the vote.
As someone earlier demonstrated, and I will attempt to expand upon, there are many options:

you can pre-order in full

you can pre-order a little

you can buy it new

you can buy it used

from gamestop

in the bargain bin

for $5

you can rent it

you can borrow it from a friend

you can set it on fire, if that's your thing

trade it for a Nintendo platformer

trade it for a similar game

trade it for any inferior platformer

Remember though, if you buy it digital, you're stuck with it.

There were some 3rd party games like this on the GameCube that did quite well during the droughts.
Splinter Cell 1 and PoP Sands of Time were amazing.

People who say releasing for Wii U would be beneficial to other platforms are our of their minds. The game would release, likely get good reviews, sell poorly to modestly, and by the time it came out on other platforms no one wold give a shit anymore. Problem is come September no one is going to give a shit either way, so really I don't know what the best course of action is.

Personally I don't play many games but my girlfriend have logged in about as many hours as possible on NSMBU and I was looking forward to getting this, can't say I'll feel the same in September.

I'm not boycotting the game, but I won't be buying it. I have Nintendo's fall titles as well as GTA V to buy. For February and March, my games to purchase are Fire Emblem and that's it.

I agree. It was going to be a nice game to play during the new year lull, but I won't have time to play it because so many more interesting games will be out that will take up my time.

I dunno, maybe someday when there's another slow period.

I really don't blame anyone for being mad about this. I would be as well.

But as a business decision, I can understand where they are coming from. It just could have been handled a lot better. I am sure they didn't decide to do this just yesterday.

I see where you are coming from, but disagree it was the right business decision. I still feel it was better to release the Wii U version now and work on the port for PS360.

The news of how they handled it just gets stranger and stranger though. It will likely bomb hard on Wii U now. I for one will likely not buy it...Not really out of spite as much as in Sept there will be a ton of things I expect to be interested in and paying off (dem MS/Sony next gen machines...)

I don't understand people wanting to boycott the game. It's still going to be a great game. What if the 360 version and ps3 version get online co-op?

Honestly anyone who says they're boycotting this either was never going to buy it, or will have changed their minds by September.

I was going to buy it, but come September, my attention and excitement will be focused elsewhere, specifically the emerging consoles and the fall lineup. An apple in the middle of a desert is priceless to a starving wanderer, but in the midst of a table cluttered with a variety of more filling food, it can be ignored until much later.

Sounds great, looks like I'll be picking this up on the ps3. I'm glad anyone with a current-gen console can enjoy this game now

Are the people who would buy a Rayman 2D platformer the same type of people who buy GTA? Can't imagine much cross over between the two demographics.

Considering 3 platforms in the middle of the holiday season couldn't move more than 50k copies of rayman origins I don't think it matters. Nintendo consoles have traditionally sold platformers much better than Sony or MS.

Just think how buried this game is going to be when Nintendo starts unleashing its late summer/fall titles.

Nintendo is going to be bringing the heat this fall

Exactly. A lot of starving Wii U owners, who were probably never interested in Rayman prior, would have immediately jumped the gun, especially since there's a demo on the eShop. Now that they're releasing it in September it's going to go up against a few Nintendo releases and will lose sales. They basically had a chance to market it to Wii U owners and now it will be buried under everything else. Like some had echoed earlier on in this thread, this game should have been multiplatform from the start.

Not necessarily but there are definitely some people who would fit under both demographics. If I could only choose one game and I fit that demographic, I'm more inclined to go with GTA V. There goes one sale. I don't know how many fit under that demographic but I'm sure it's a decent amount of gamers.

At least in February it wouldn't have gotten lost amidst what will undoubtedly be the years biggest advertising campaign.

I can guarantee you that I had it pre-ordered and I can say with certainty that I will not be getting it in Sept. There will be other games on multiple systems I'm looking forward to that I expect to release in Sept. where as I would have loved to pick it up and play it on Wii U while there is a drought of software for it. I'm sure there are A LOT of other Wii U owners who planned to buy it for similar reasons.

Any evidence?

Origins wasn't successful it bombed. The whole idea of the Wii U exclusive was a launch title that could grab the launch audience. They missed the window and heard lots of whiners so hoping the whiners actually buy it this time
It was profitable and Ubi expected it to continue selling well over time. Hardly a bomb.

But yeah, the WiiU thing makes sense so that when it wouldve hit 360/PS3 people mightve been more interested.

Could be some synergy there though. At least people will be going to the store and buying games. I got a feeling that Feb's NPD numbers will be grim for the platform.

This is a real kick to the guts of the WiiU but it's only because it was relying on this game coming out soon because the upcoming lineup is so sparse.

Plus the Rayman demo is one of the few demos on the eShop. I'm sure Ubisoft has some statistics regarding how many times it was downloaded and played. Maybe they weren't satisfied with those numbers? lol

Too bad for everyone of those titles there was a XIII or Beyond Good and Evil that tanked.
Definitely, but that's true for every system they were on. I would've bought BG+E on GC if I could find it.

GC-era Ubi-soft is still in better standing than current-era.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I wonder what an angry Iwata looks like?

I've heard he has Rayman's head on a spike and carries it around as a warning to other third parties.

The game will sell more in its new timeslot, on the new systems it's now on, than it ever would on Wii U at its now old 2013 release date. Anyone thinking otherwise is just..wrong.

The Wii U version delay is still very unfortunate for Wii U owners. And unprofessional of them, in pursuit of maybe 50/100k more full price sales from a slightly expanded Wii U userbase in september, after giving a solid release date and if rumours are true, actually completing dev on the game. Not illegal though, or morally wrong, just unprofessional. I don't think it's worth boycotting over.

It just seems like an odd retort, "Well you see, GTA." Which of course go back to the point if Ubisoft felt like they would make the most money by releasing in February for only the Wii U they would have.

I already cancelled my amazon order.

I'll likely pick it up late fall or during black friday for cheap. Shame, it was a good timing for the Wii U to have a solid new title.

Well you have to consider just because they thought delaying it was a good idea doesn't mean it was...

It's not just GTA. There's a bunch of other games as well. I'm sure the demographic of other titles, especially on Nintendo consoles, will overlap. It's going to go up against, potentially Windwaker HD, W101, Yoshi's Epic Shit, or whatever Nintendo releases. Not only that it's coming out two months before Black Friday. It's definitely the type of title to hit the bargain bin. Why buy it for full price when I can get it for $20-30 two months later and enjoy Winkwaker HD and GTA V?

The Miiverse is being used as a new form of protest, it's pretty interesting.

I think this is a mistake on Ubi's part both strategically and financially. There was big opportunity here to be had with the Wii U release and they could have likely talked Nintendo into providing support for their marketing.

Love how this all happens over one credulous account from a "dev".

This is how reputations get formed - and many of them seem to form around BS.

"There are no issues with the game development. All of the information was in the press release, the only reason for the delay is to release on multiple platforms," Ubisoft public relations specialist Sarah Irvin said.
