Doug Lombardi did not leave Valve. Stop hyperventilating and go read a book.

Apparently he's just terrible at updating LinkedIn.

Superannuation thinks that Doug Lombardi also left Valve this month.
Also Leslie Redd who was in charge of education outreach initiative

Given who this is, split bump.

For those who don't know, LinkedIn normally lists (Start Month/Year) - Present for those who still work at a company.

That seems pretty clear actually:

Jackben

bitch I'm taking calls.
As if the 'annual performance review' excuse wasn't bullshit enough, what do you call this? It's Doug Lombardi. He didn't call in sick too many times and forget to file a TPS report, this is a big deal.

Was this part of the layoffs earlier, or a new departure?

Not sure why they'd let go of Doug. I mean, he seemed to be way up there in the scheme of things at Valve.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Doesn't that just mean his CV is up to date?

It should read "present" if the position is still currently being held.

There is only one explanation: Doug left in protest after Gabe said he's had enough of the four-odd years of silence on Episode Three/Half-Life 3.

Nooo00000000, fuck this shit
Now who is gonna be the Vegeta charater of the Starfox games????!!!

gaben got tired of Doug feeding when playing support in DOTA 2, kickbanned him IRL.

Thanks for the split bump, this is kind of crazy. Doug leaving makes the thing feel more like a cultural/ideological driven purge and less like casual layoffs.

Does Doug's involvement influence game development at all? And if not, why should we care? Honest question - I don't know anything about him.

So it's fair to say GabeN lied through his teeth with his stupid "everything is fine, nothing is changing" statement made a few weeks ago.

Well, Valve's economist said on a podcast this week that Valve essentially isn't marketing games anymore so that makes sense!

What the fuuuuuck? How does this happen. How on earth does this guy get fired? I don't see it. He's been there for 13 years for christssake.

assuming you are serious, Linked in Says "2/25/13 - Present" if the job is still active. It requires an unchecking of the "still employed" box to specify an end date.

And i seriously think some of you are reading way to much into this. Valve is like any other company. People quit/get laid off/get fired. Valve isn't some exception to this rule.

My guess: there was a turmoil long time going but Gabe didn't want to rock the boat.

Or his methods of management don't apply to 500-person strong company and he decided to roll with more traditional management practices.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
The dream is dead.

Something is happening at Valve, either they are spinning off/selling a business unit. Or they are not nearly as profitable as we all think they are.
