EA and Insomniac Games Unleash the Power of Lethal Teamwork with Fuse on May 28

Brand New IP from the Award-Winning Studio behind Ratchet & Clank, Resistance Franchises Brings Co-Op Action Gameplay to Explosive Levels

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A new kind of arms race is about to begin. Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and Insomniac Games announced that the four-person co-op action shooter — Fuse™ — will launch on May 28 in North America and on May 31 in Europe. Fuse thrusts players into the roles of four elite, covert agents — Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble and Naya Deveraux — each with their own Xenotech weapon and set of unique skills used to fight to protect mankind from a deadly alien energy source known as Fuse. Developed by the critically-acclaimed independent studio, Insomniac Games, Fuse will mark the company's first multiplatform release when it becomes available for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system this spring.

"Insomniac Games is known for delivering best-in-class weaponry that breaks the mold of traditional video games — and Fuse is no different," said Ted Price, CEO and Founder of Insomniac Games. "These Xenotech weapons further the innovation players will find in this unique, action co-op shooter. We can't wait to bring Fuse, our first multi-platform game, to gamers worldwide this May."

Players who pre-order Fuse from select retailers will be able to unlock special armor and weapon customization for each of the game's four elite agents. These weapons can be used to bolster their characters' respective arsenals through increased damage on all one-handed weapons.

The pre-order bonuses include:

  • Four Hyperion Prototype Agent Armor Skins—Upgrade your agents' look with four special, state-of-the-art armor skins discovered inside the top-secret Hyperion Base
  • Four Hyperion Prototype Weapon Skins—Customize your Fuse weapons with four skins based on each of the original prototypes developed inside Hyperion Base
  • Quickdraw Team Perk—Increase your damage with this team perk adding powerful Fuse elements to all one-handed weapons for all four characters in your squad

Fuse is a four-person co-op, story-driven, action game that allows even solo players to experience the unique attributes of each agent by using the game's LEAP feature — a feature that can be used to switch the player between the four characters at-will during combat. Each covert agent is equipped with unique skills and weapons that are not only necessary for survival, but also help create unexpected and extraordinary results. Xenotech weapons are powered by a volatile alien substance that gives players unique capabilities that expand their strategic options in and out of combat. Through lethal teamwork, players can complete objectives and kills to earn Fuse points for powerful upgrades. Players can also play online* or offline and level up along unique character paths, allowing players to unlock more powerful Fuse-driven abilities as the game progresses. In addition, the game's progression system is unified between different play modes, allowing players to continue improving their agents regardless of how they play.

Created and developed by Insomniac Games, Fuse will be available on May 28 in North America and May 31 in Europe for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Did you say there's a pre-order bonus to change the game to the old art style? Am I reading this right?

R2 coOp evolution

lol Jak2 is one of the worst games I've played. Ratchet on ps2 was awesome, and CiT is better than everr UC outside of 2

Crash was better than Spyro. Crash 3 is still one of the best 3D platformers i've played.

Jak & Daxter > any Ratchet game. Ratchet has been phoned in ever since after the second game.

Don't get me started on the mediocrity that is Resistance. R2 is worse than Jak 2 by a good green country mile, and probably widely regarded as one of the worst sequels of all time. I couldn't even finish it.

I mean, Uncharted 3 was bad and all, but at the very least the first two games were leagues ahead of anything Insomniac ever did.

It's incredible (and maybe bad PR) that the only info I get from the game comes only from neogaf.

I agree, but then again what could PR really do for this game? Even reading the EA bulletin is depressing; "EA and Insomniac Games Unleash the Power of Lethal Teamwork".

Wanted to pick this up. R2 co-op was fun and I hoped this game would keep me busy between bioshock and the last of us.

But launching two and a half weeks before the last if us...you done goofed. I might still pick it up eventually but not at full or even half price.

Sorry insomniac

When called Overstrike this game looked distinctive, but its all so generic now and there is hardly any word on it.

'The power of lethal teamwork'. I mean come on. How do marketing people even agree to use a phase like that.

I believe they've been photoshop'ed in as a joke to show how much the texture really does look like a Google Earth image.

The game was far from finished. That's another fault of Insomniac - they try and do these 'efficient' 2 year development cycles, but I think it's just for show as their games always feel like they needed another year in the oven.

Perhaps this is where Fuse can differ, but I doubt it.

This don't really sound interesting at all,and all the game in the week before and the week after Fuse release (Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut,Metro: Last Light,Resident Evil: Revelations, Remember Me,The Last of Us) are way more interesting than Fuse.

and honestly Insomniac lost my trust and me as a faithful for them this gen with their average and horrible games (RFOM,R2,R3,all Ratchet rehashes) so yeah I'm not buying this..well unless if it turn to be super awesome somehow.

Overstrike trailer got soul, but that thanks to Blur(they are really good).

I admit, if the game was like that I may be over it day 1, but sadly it's not.

Insomniac need to surprise us here with a very good game even after the style change, like Gearsbox with Borderland 1.

I've been interested in this ever since "Overstrike" and even when it became "Fuse" so I will check it out, but I doubt I will be getting it on day 1. Would like a demo though!

Have they ever really been in competition though? I mean ND have always trounced them in anything they do, it's hardly fair.
Regardless of quality, and certainly they both have a very strong fanbase, I just mean because people tend to think them in parallel, their output and roles have been so similar, and both mostly involved with Sony, they're just very similar historically, but because of their publishers, they've always been basically on alternate schedules with major games. I think it's cool they both have new IPs, and they're launching within weeks of each other, finally.

Insomniac usually put demos for their games, hopefully they do it for this game soon(not sure if EA has anything to say here).

So is this supposed to be open-world in any regard? Or is it another linear, cinematics-driven shooter?

The "Story-driven" aspect worries me.

No interest at all in weapon skins.

Interested in the demo though.

Insomniac is such a strange company to me in regards to their games. I've only played a few of the Ratchet and Clank games and really enjoyed them. I hated Resistance 1, I'd consider Resistance 2 one of the worst FPS this gen and adored Resistance 3. The quality of their games varies so much I never know what to expect.

One of the things that interested me in Fuse was something Ted said during a livestream. Having weapons that felt good and had ooomph and impact to them. This is something I find to be very important yet many developers never seem to do right or not very well with their games. I felt they made big strides with this in regards to Resistance 3 in comparison to Resistance 1 and 2 (where I found the weapons not very fun at all) and that's definitely got me interested in Fuse.

I really do hope for the best though, their heart is in the right place and I'd never want someone to 'fail' as that's just mean. I'll probably pick this up day one I think.

Never quite forgave Insomniac for taking Overstrike and morphing it into what it has become now, but I'll definitely try out a demo.
