Probably late about this but according to Art, OBS was never taking off Twitch. They got flagged and that is it. OBS can still stream on Twitch and seems to be OBS trying to start problems on Twitter saying the Illuminati got them.

Is the regular version safe on block?
The red life versions are definitely safe on block. The regular pulses I am not sure if they are 100% safe but they are hard to punish.

You can just end a string with cr.H, its -3 on block or you can fly. That's what I did. I don't mess with the Pulses myself, I leave that to the pros.

Melee tiers are, roughly:
Fox, Falco, Sheik, Jigglypuff / Peach, Marth, C.Falcon / Ice Climbers / others (Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Pikachu, Samus all see some 'specialist' play)

Fox/Falco are rushdown characters built around their jump-cancellable one-frame Down-B ("Shine") attacks, where fox has stronger horizontal movement but better upward KO options (giving better matchups against lightweights like Puff/Peach) and Falco has strong vertical movement leading to an up-down combo called Pillaring, but also great horizontal approach due to the hitstun on his Laser.

Sheik has a very strong throw game that can lead to chain-throws on lightweights and "tech chases" on fastfallers, where Sheik's downthrow results in a techable knockdown and Sheik tries to read or react to the direction of the tech to land another grab. Sheik is able to keep up with Fox and Falco mostly due to her strong offstage "gimping" game, which refers to hitting low-percentage opponents out of their recovery until they're just far enough from the stage to not be able to make it back, and provides early K.O.'s.

Puff is notable for strong horizontal aerial mobility and a one-frame (almost-)instant kill in Rest. Puff play revolves around rest setups and zoning with her high air mobility + disjointed hitbox on her back-aerial. Puff is also notable for having the strongest matchup against Peach of any character in the game.

Peach is a strong defensive Anti-Metagame character. She's notable for her strong, safe edgeguards, powerful downsmash (if the opponent is holding the wrong direction, a downsmash can deal 40-50% damage), and character-specific aerial lag cancel technique ("float cancelling") that lets her drop in with a high-priority aerial and almost instantly cancel into a downsmash or other follow-up. She also has a chain-grab on Fox and Falco. Armada is still the only player to see real success with Peach.

Marth has a very strong combo and gimping game on the fast-falling characters but struggles with lighter ones. C. Falcon is reads-based and has explosive potential against most characters, but poor recovery options. Ice Climbers can kill any character off of a single grab but are held back by their lack of priority and approach options, as well as the frequent mistakes made by the CPU-controlled partner.

The most relevant players are Armada (Peach), Mango (Fox/Falco), Dr. PP (Falco/Marth), Hungrybox (Puff), Mew2King (Sheik/Marth), and then after a small gap Shroomed (Dr. Mario), PewPewU (Marth), and Hax (C. Falcon). Armada (from Sweden, the only relevant international player) is generally seen as being on top right now, but he "retired" after Apex 2013 (in January) and doesn't seem to intend to come to EVO.

The primary fanboy debate is whether Mango or Armada is the stronger player, with PP generally receiving the most recognition after those two. Armada is notable for his strong safe play and punishment with few mistakes. Mango is notable for his insane rushdown, technical ability, and game sense. PP, I would say, is notable for having the strongest fundamentals of any of the top players.

this was a really awesome read. thanks!

Apparently, the donation drive FGTV is doing for RayRay/Moons is to fly them out after CEO, then fly back to NY after Evo. So I guess that means RayRay's going to Evo now. Neat.

Well that seems pretty harsh.

Fuck the Twitch CEO tho.

I know he's supposed to be like "the nice one" but it just feels like good twitch cop, bad twitch cop. He still got his digs in when given the chance in that reddit thread.

And I have seen him say fighting games should be popular with a "general" audience because it's just guys beating each other up and meters going up and down. I guess he could've been demeaning the "general" audience with that comment, but it seemed like he didn't really understand what was going on with the games.

okay, I take back "fuck that guy" but I reserve the right to be paranoid about twitch employees :)

I think what he was trying to say is that fighting games are a lot easier to understand on a superficial level compared to LoL/etc, and he's right. I don't think that should be demeaning to anybody.

Fishstix has definitely said some head-turning things before but I also think it's apparent that he likes the FGC. He's been to several events, and goes out of his way to support in general, so whatever. I don't always agree with him but he has good intentions at heart and it's nice to not live in an echo chamber. Granted, I've never met the guy, and this is just my uninformed stream monster opinion.

The whole AMA with the CEO left a pretty bad taste in my mouth though. Outside of the obvious stupid shit he said about the FGC, the guy just seems really full of himself. He said that YouTube's streaming efforts were "cute." Yeah, he's gonna think it's real cute if they ever get serious about that shit. But luckily for Twitch, Google doesn't really seem too interested in the game-streaming niche judging from their recent actions with LPs. Google is probably more interested in general streaming.

Doesn't Eventhubs have all that stuff now?
Forums don't update as frequently (people still mostly use SRK) and there's no way to gauge magnitude of events and player interest (so I can put the cream of the crop in OP rather than just posting every event going down like they do).

Is there already a title for next week's thread? If not...

FGW | eSports Was Right About Us

or

FGW | Getting Put On Blast
Oh yeah, we need a thread title in uh.. the next two minutes. If not I'm going with the second one.
