There was a 'Physically Based Shading in Theory and Practice' course at Siggraph this year that included the following presentation by Ready At Dawn:

Crafting a Next-Gen Material Pipeline for The Order: 1886

Here are some materials from it (lifted from http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread...-trailer/page4)

Looks impressive. Still confused about the black "widescreen view" of the game though.

Is this a ps4 exclusive, i.e. not a cross gen game?

Can't wait to see some gameplay. The game's atmosphere is so intriguing, especially with its Victorian futurism coupled with werewolves(?) and the White Chapel murders.

Yes. PS4 exclusive.

Also this is a proprietary in-house Ready at Dawn engine right? hopefully not UE4 (still bent about UE3 texture popping) or middleware....

Looking good, gotta love the art style of the game and the whole atmosphere/time period they chose or got going on.

This, AC4 and I:SS are my most wanted games thus far.

I'm glad I put in that specular aliasing slide, it got a few laughs.

I also wanted to put in a "yo dawg I heard you like composites" picture when talking about putting composite materials inside of composite materials, but I never got around to it.

We are right on the brink of very real looking characters... it's just something that's holding it back, but it's hard to figure out what exactly. I'm also very impressed with some of the shaders for clothes I've been seeing in some of these Sony studio games.

Is The Order:1886 really running at 1920x800?

The face looks great, as does the hair/facial hair, but the texture of the face doesn't seem quite as detailed as some we've seen in some other next-gen games. Still, early days, though, and still looks fantastic overall.

Ready at dawn has this weird aura of mystery to me. They made some of the most capable games on the PSP and I think they never really got noticed for talent because of the limited scope of the PSP so to say. I think they're going to hit it out of the park on this one. at least I'm certainly hoping :P

The trash can picture in the pdf is actually an old asset from an internal presentation back in early 2012. I'd meant to swap it out with one of the new pictures of the water pump, but I must have forgotten. Just squint your eyes and pretend that it's a new, pretty asset.
