"We could sell extra content to gamers 'down the road,' but we donít believe in that," he said, "we believe patches, fixes and additional content should be provided to gamers free of charge. Only something REALLY big, and something that will not make you feel ripped off, justifies a price tag."

But that doesn't mean there will never be any way to continue supporting the developers post release. "If we ever decide to charge you for something," he continued, "we think you will appreciate what you get in return."

They also didn't believe in support of hardcore DRM awhile back.

Incoming cut content bonus pre-order DLC.

The funniest thing is when I saw Witcher 2 PC for $20 and Witcher 2 extended edition PC for $50 at the store. The Witcher 2's extended content was a free patch. And people were buying up the $50 extended edition. I picked up the $20 one and got the exact same content.

I love these guys. Will be buying W3 without a shadow of a doubt. Still surprised they revealed at Microsoft's conference given all the furore about DRM at the time mind.

They offered a Steam version of Witcher 2 day 1. Or is it only hardcore DRM when it's on consoles?

Good attitude. They're not saying that it's always wrong to sell any kind of add-on, but that most DLC is frivolous and overpriced.

Not many developers share that mindset. People say money talks, but sometimes there are others who have strong ideals. Good to see it vocalized in a market that's shifting toward more and more micro-transactions.

Also, dont they offer DRM free GOG "backups" to anyone who bought versions elsewhere. All you have to do is type in your product key.

I wonder how much longer people will uphold this old school PC gaming mentality.

Seems like a majority of developers have abandoned it, but it's nice to see the legacy live on it in these guys.

They can't control distribution policies on other platforms. Witcher 2 is DRM free on GOG. Physical copy owners had the DRM patched out and Steam owners got an extra drm free copy on GOG.. Way to tell the whole story there.

Aye! Just finished my second play-through of the Witcher 2, and I can't freakin wait for the next one. Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to their cyberpunk game too, but it's definitely not an one or the other situation for me.

I dont even understand what hes trying to say. The quote is about post release content, and he responds with don't release this brand new game in your flagship series. Release this other one!

I'd love to see what all the fuss is about... Witcher 1 just didn't grab me, and Witcher 2 was a lot better until I installed the combat rebalance mod and it destroyed my savegame. Have to start over now, just haven't had the motivation..

It's also Nintendo's stance. Well, depending on the game, as I've heard mixed things about NSMB2 and FE:A DLC.

It's a good stance.

Yeah, by the sound of it Witcher 3 will keep me busy a few months either way. Would be cool with some DLC or quests from another perspective though, but I figure that'll be a part of the main quest like in The Witcher 2

Actually no, it doesn't happen with other games because nobody else gives away their expansions for free. My point was that witcher 2 without the expansion was $20 and witcher 2 with expansion was $50, but unlike other games, witcher 2's expansion was free so you could get the $20 retail copy and end up with the same content.
